CST condemns the terrorist murder of two Israel Embassy staff outside the Jewish Museum in Washington DC.

During our community cohesion inquiry evidence session, we heard from Jonny Newton of @cstuk.bsky.social about whether social media companies are doing enough to tackle antisemitism online ⬇️

CST welcomes the sentencing of Faiz Shah, Mohammad Comrie and Elinaj Ogunnubi-Sime to eight years and one month imprisonment each for the appalling kidnapping and assault of a J­­­ewish-Israeli music producer, who was lured to West Wales using the pretence of a fake professional engagement.

CST has an extensive security operation in place to secure Jewish communal buildings.

The attacker injured two police officers and fatally shot Jewish security volunteer, Dan Uzan, who was outside protecting a bat mitzvah celebration. On the previous day, the attacker killed a filmmaker and injured others at a public free speech event.

On this day we remember the security volunteer, Dan Uzan, who was killed in the Islamic-State inspired shooting outside the Great Synagogue in Copenhagen, 2015.

There were 260 school-related cases of anti-Jewish hate. Of the 1,773 instances in which the victim or victims’ age was ascertained by CST, 279 (16%) targeted victims exclusively under the age of 18.

A record 179 instances of anti-Jewish hate were reported to CST in 2024 wherein the victim was an individual of public prominence, an increase of 23% from the 145 incidents of this nature reported in 2023.

CST recorded 1,240 cases of online antisemitism in 2024, the second most across any year. This total for online incidents is only indicative, as the actual amount of antisemitic content on online platforms is much larger.

164 antisemitic incidents in 2024 targeted synagogues, including buildings, congregants and staff: the most that CST has ever recorded in a year. Synagogues are symbolic and often very visible targets for those seeking a destination for their anti-Jewish hate.

In total, 2,589 (73%) of the 3,528 antisemitic incidents presented one or more political or ideological discourses, motivations, tropes or conspiracy theories. The rise in politicised language and motivations demonstrates the impact of extremisms of different kinds on anti-Jewish hate in the UK.

In the year leading up to 7 October 2023, CST recorded an average of 154 cases of anti-Jewish hate per month; in 2024, this monthly average almost doubled, to 294 antisemitic incidents per month.

A joint statement from the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Jewish Leadership Council and Community Security Trust on the Met Police decision to impose conditions on this Saturday's 'National March for Palestine'. It reads as follows: "This Saturday's National March for Palestine must not take place in the vicinity of the BBC given its proximity to a synagogue and the impact on worshippers. We support the right to peaceful protest and are not asking for this march to be banned. However, we support the Metropolitan Police in imposing conditions to protect those who are attending Central London Synagogues. Other routes and days are available. This march must not be allowed in the vicinity of a synagogue at any time on Saturday."

CST thanks the police and CPS for their work on this case and we will continue to work with police and the CPS, and other partners, to ensure that the Jewish community is protected from this kind of harassment and that the perpetrators of hate crimes face justice.

CST welcomes the conviction and sentencing of two girls for what was an appalling series of assaults in which antisemitism clearly played an important role. This case is made even more shocking by the ages of the offenders who were responsible.
