Militarism as a tool can help maintain a grip through fear and force, but once a population decides that its sacrifices outweigh the illusion of strength - that system usually crumbles. Force can intimidate, but it can’t endlessly smother hunger, grief, economic hardship, and disillusion.

When a system is crumbling - economically, politically, or morally - leaders often redirect public rage sideways towards scapegoats or each other. This tactic buys time, but it rarely saves a corrupt regime in the long run.

Modern Russia - the Kremlin propaganda machine routinely blames “foreign enemies” or pits social groups against each other (nationalists vs. liberals, rural vs. urban) while avoiding scrutiny of widespread corruption and economic stagnation.

South Africa - the government maintained minority rule by deliberately dividing black South Africans along ethnic lines and fueling fear of communism - masking their systemic inequality.

Rwanda - The Hutu led regime diverted attention away from its deep economic decline and authoritarian failures by scapegoating the Tutsi minority, which culminated in genocide.

Yugoslavia - when the socialist federation was teetering on the brink of collapse, the nationalist leaders stoked ethnic divisions. People fought each other while the political system collapsed.

Soviet Union - directed anger at “class enemies,” kulaks, or “foreign agents,” instead of allowing the people to question why their economy wasn’t delivering.

Nazi Germany - Hitler blamed Jews, communists, and other “outsiders” for everything - from economic misery to national humiliation, while militarism and dictatorship hollowed the system from within.

British Empire - "divide and rule” was the standard operating procedure - pitting local groups against each other (India’s religious communities, African tribes, Middle Eastern sects) so that the colonized people wouldn’t unite against imperial control.

The Ottoman Empire - the leaders leaned into sectarian and ethnic divisions, scapegoating Armenians and other minorities, to deflect from the empire’s administrative and economic weakness.

The Roman Empire (before the fall) - the emperor used "bread and circuses" to keep angry mobs occupied, while their elites blamed “barbarians” and internal minorities for the decline - distracting their populace from rampant corruption and economic decay.

History has no shortage of states that have used division as a survival tactic, turning the peoples frustration sideways instead of upward. These should all sound very frighteningly familiar.

Immigration reform, under the guise of militarism, is being employed as a diversion tactic from Epstein and the myriad failed domestic and foreign policy programs. It's a last ditch effort to divide and prevent us from looking at the real problem, which is that OUR ECONOMIC SYSTEM IS FAILING US.

All of the ICE raids happening in the United States are totally antithetical to the rule of democracy and our founding principles, but if history is our guide, this shit show will not last.

Nobody deserves this. The courts need to step in.
