Whilst I agree in general with your sentiments, I believe that Trump & Abbott want to destroy the Constitution. The Constitution is about democracy, separation of powers, and the prevention of an autocracy. Trump wants nothing of that, he wants to be a dictator, and Abbott fully supports him.

Abbott has said that he has ordered the "arrest and return ... any member who has abandoned their duty to Texans". It is Abbott who has abandoned this duty, in shamelessly and undemocratically gerry-mandering voting districts to blatantly favour the Republicans, and the Trump regime.
