The UK’s future if we had cut disability benefits according to Badenoch

And now she's bringing talk about the by-election into this, come on, get real! Blimey, she misjudged this today #PMQs

And now Badenoch's saying we should remain reliant on oil and gas!! Oh come on! If we've got another energy shock coming it completely underlines the need for turbocharging investment in renewables! #PMQs

Got to say, this is both an unedifying and an unimpressive performance from Kemi Badenoch at PMQs today. She's trying to pressure on Iran but it feels like she's entirely ignoring the answers to stick to a bizarre script. And giving Starmer free hits in the process.

It’s being said a lot that the shadow of Iraq is hanging over Keir Starmer and the Labour Party during this Iran crisis.

It absolutely should. What’s remarkable is how little much of the British media and the rest of politics seem to be thinking about it at all, or learning its lessons.

Rachel Reeves looks utterly fed up with the Opposition today, and I can't say I blame her #PMQs

Starmer is showing the seriousness of the moment today in his words, actions and tone. Badenoch isn’t capable of doing this, clearly. #PMQs

It makes me think the whole system is completely out of date. Things move too quickly domestically & globally for a Spring Statement to be meaningful when the next Budget is potentially 8 months away.

There's a balance to strike here - the panicked cuts last year at Spring Statement were bad too.

03.03.2026 13:27 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fair point - but it makes me wonder whether there was any point doing it all, especially if global events force major economic decisions in the coming weeks?

Pam from Gavin & Stacey β€œIs that IT?”

Okay so Mel Stride just took the words out of my mouth. Was there any substance to the Spring Statement this time?

I mean it’s better to not do panicked cuts like last year, but there was no real point to that statement at all.

Laura Trott in Education questions right now could have pushed harder on the Conservative tuition fees policy… but instead decided to just shove forward more gender critical culture war talking points.

Some Conservative frontbenchers can only manage moments of seriousness at best. Exhausting.

Refugee status becomes temporary in asylum shake-up Adults and accompanied children claiming asylum will only receive refugee status for 30 months under the changes.

Abysmal, immoral, cruel, small hearted, tiny minded, ineffective, undemocratic, and just generally utterly indecent. What a bitter godforesaken disappointment these people are.

The Public Health Minister Ashley Dalton has resigned due to the effect of her ongoing chemotherapy treatment.

Wishing her all the best, that’s a lot to deal with without also being a Minister.

Looks like there’s a couple of ministerial vacancies Starmer needs to fill - mini reshuffle incoming?

I’m not a Green voter but this is my view too.

Labour need to start respecting the progressive voters in their voting coalition again. We don’t want Reform lite, we want some progressive policies.

I hope they see the light and stop pandering to the right all the time, but I’m not sure they will.

27.02.2026 08:19 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Can all we agree that, regardless of political allegiance, an electoral system in which Labour, the Tories, Reform, the LibDems, the Greens, Restore Britain and Your Party are all scrabbling for votes is one in which FPTP will deliver absurdly unrepresentative results?

PR now!

I’m predicting Reform will win Gorton & Denton.

This three way split has all the markings of a slim Reform victory. If I were a constituent I don’t know how I’d vote.

Let’s see I guess…

She shouldn’t have called Labour a paedo defence party though, she never knows when to draw the line.

25.02.2026 12:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I agree, I definitely don’t trust Badenoch to deliver a policy like this! She has no ability to deliver anyway as she’s in Opposition.

But as LOTO, if she can put pressure onto the Labour govt to do the right thing, then I’m supportive of that. Tbf that is her job.

25.02.2026 12:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Of course they’re being opportunistic, that’s what the Opposition always does! Labour did it too!

It’s refreshing that more parties are focusing on younger voters for once. We can lower the voting age and tackle loan debt! We can support young people and pensioners! They’re not mutually exclusive!

I’m very happy that they will look at it, it’s important they do and I hope they do it at pace

I blame Tories and Lib Dems for getting us here, but the Labour Government decided to freeze the repayment threshold at the 2025 Autumn Budget, which will compound the problem.
