04.03.2026 12:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Got to say, this is both an unedifying and an unimpressive performance from Kemi Badenoch at PMQs today. She's trying to pressure on Iran but it feels like she's entirely ignoring the answers to stick to a bizarre script. And giving Starmer free hits in the process.

Itβs being said a lot that the shadow of Iraq is hanging over Keir Starmer and the Labour Party during this Iran crisis.
It absolutely should. Whatβs remarkable is how little much of the British media and the rest of politics seem to be thinking about it at all, or learning its lessons.
Rachel Reeves looks utterly fed up with the Opposition today, and I can't say I blame her #PMQs

It makes me think the whole system is completely out of date. Things move too quickly domestically & globally for a Spring Statement to be meaningful when the next Budget is potentially 8 months away.
There's a balance to strike here - the panicked cuts last year at Spring Statement were bad too.
Fair point - but it makes me wonder whether there was any point doing it all, especially if global events force major economic decisions in the coming weeks?

Okay so Mel Stride just took the words out of my mouth. Was there any substance to the Spring Statement this time?
I mean itβs better to not do panicked cuts like last year, but there was no real point to that statement at all.

Laura Trott in Education questions right now could have pushed harder on the Conservative tuition fees policy⦠but instead decided to just shove forward more gender critical culture war talking points.
Some Conservative frontbenchers can only manage moments of seriousness at best. Exhausting.
Abysmal, immoral, cruel, small hearted, tiny minded, ineffective, undemocratic, and just generally utterly indecent. What a bitter godforesaken disappointment these people are.

The Public Health Minister Ashley Dalton has resigned due to the effect of her ongoing chemotherapy treatment.
Wishing her all the best, thatβs a lot to deal with without also being a Minister.
Looks like thereβs a couple of ministerial vacancies Starmer needs to fill - mini reshuffle incoming?

Iβm not a Green voter but this is my view too.
Labour need to start respecting the progressive voters in their voting coalition again. We donβt want Reform lite, we want some progressive policies.
I hope they see the light and stop pandering to the right all the time, but Iβm not sure they will.
Can all we agree that, regardless of political allegiance, an electoral system in which Labour, the Tories, Reform, the LibDems, the Greens, Restore Britain and Your Party are all scrabbling for votes is one in which FPTP will deliver absurdly unrepresentative results?
PR now!

Iβm predicting Reform will win Gorton & Denton.
This three way split has all the markings of a slim Reform victory. If I were a constituent I donβt know how Iβd vote.

She shouldnβt have called Labour a paedo defence party though, she never knows when to draw the line.

I agree, I definitely donβt trust Badenoch to deliver a policy like this! She has no ability to deliver anyway as sheβs in Opposition.
But as LOTO, if she can put pressure onto the Labour govt to do the right thing, then Iβm supportive of that. Tbf that is her job.
Of course theyβre being opportunistic, thatβs what the Opposition always does! Labour did it too!
Itβs refreshing that more parties are focusing on younger voters for once. We can lower the voting age and tackle loan debt! We can support young people and pensioners! Theyβre not mutually exclusive!
I donβt disagree! Itβs just wild that this saga is dragging in so many prolific people

I blame Tories and Lib Dems for getting us here, but the Labour Government decided to freeze the repayment threshold at the 2025 Autumn Budget, which will compound the problem.
