Paternal grandfather was a dairy farmer; maternal had a “truck farm” for growing vegetables for market, before eventually selling it off for an excavating business. I am not enough of a morning person to milk cows at 5am (nor 5pm.)

In my experience (HS in rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan), it wasn’t the college prep track that went into the military: it was the kids who had no prospects for jobs or higher education. It’s like a modern-day CCC for poor areas of the country.

I ordered my grandmother’s BC off of Michigan’s version, but it didn’t require DL. Still hadn’t got after 2 months so did it as an in-person document retrieval. Thank goodness I only had to hit one county for everything.

I had to do this recently when ordering 3 generations’ worth of records at the Clerk’s Office directly here in Michigan. Figured the photocopy was less of a risk than whatever I submitted online. Forgot to get a copy of my dad’s DL & we had to call him to text it to me (w/help from my cousin.)

Also has zero concern about what happens to the civilians in those countries, once their leadership is removed.
