„A sad fiasco“, my book on colonial concentration camps, has been released in paperback today. If you want to know what characterized these deadly institutions; whether colonial powers copied this technique from each other; and whether they are connected to later Nazi camps, consider taking a look.

While the original 2019 hardback was admittedly pretty expensive, this version is rather affordable. And even more so if you use the Promotion Code KREI3760 (valid until the end of January).

One of my go to examples of blatant neocolonialism when teaching or presenting on the topic, and woefully underresearched. Great book by a great scholar and journalist:

Neuerscheinung: "Das gelebte Europa!"

I was struck today by the fact that this rather new Edeka supermarket ostentatiously displays the German supermarket chain’s origins as a cooperative of Kolonialwarenhändler, i.e. grocers selling predominantly colonial-origin goods. (at Forum Schwanthalerhöhe, Munich, opened 2019)

The yearbook of the GHI Rome Rome, rather austerely called Quellen und Forschungen aus italienischen Archiven und Bibliotheken, has published some of my thoughts on how to write European colonial history, moving away from national narratives. Here is some recommended reading for a rainy weekend 😁
