Why making a gacha when you can treat the industry like your own personal gacha
03.03.2026 20:48 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I like the optimistic vibes a lot, on this I agree! I wish it dared to be more original but at least it *feels* like Star Trek
03.03.2026 17:10 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"best of the NuTrek" doesn't mean good, especially if the best episodes are riffing on older concepts. A show regurgitating itself.

The episode is fine.
Just fine.
I want a Star Trek willing to boldly go somewhere more than fine.
What's considered one of the best episodes of SNW is just a straight homage to Le Guin's "Those who walk away from Omelas". It doesn't even try to have a conversation with the original, a genre in itself: www.kith.org/jed/hodgepod...
03.03.2026 15:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Watching Strange New Worlds and it's *bad*, but... gosh, remember when Star Trek was ahead of the curve? When it was the show with women on the bridge. The show with an interracial kiss, and a lesbian one. The show with a bald captain because in the future no one would care

YES IT'S SO GOOD
Feels like someone's D&D adventure but like, good
The talk to your friends app and the witness the horrors app being the same app is not great for the mental health is it

And not everyone likes or is capable of easily digesting information on video form.
I'm not saying all video tutorials must die; I'm saying BOTH options should be available to people, but nowadays it's way more common to find video tutorials without a text version than the opposite
I need people to understand that video tutorials only took over because they're easier to monetize, not because they're better - in fact, they can be incredibly hard to follow for multiple reasons (being deaf, not being able to follow without subtitles, simply NOT HAVING A SECOND SCREEN)

"Just learn [engine X], it's easy!"
Okay is there any tutorial that isn't a video? No? Goodbye then
Oooh I had no idea they were working on an almost-sequel! Sounds like an interesting way to recycle an old engine/assets while experimenting with new mechanics, neat

I still don't understand why they are now magically capable of reproducing sexually, but we spent zero time establishing how it happened and how it impacted their society!!
I have only seen 2 eps of Starfleet Academy so far but I bet the show will keep ignoring this potentially juicy plot point

It's been very hard to get my partner into Star Trek when most modern Star Trek shows are... this. Perhaps I should make her watch Babylon 5 and tell her it's Star Trek

23.02.2026 07:20 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Watched episode 1 of Star Trek Fleet Academy and imho it's not as bad as you all made it out to be, but also... not good? It's competently made yet the vibes are off. More Guardians of the Galaxy than Trek

This guy with a tyranid arm and leg? Xenobiology enthusiast. Did some experiments. For science. Heretic? Yeah absolutely. So cool tho
Started painting my Dark Mechanicum kill team. It's, ah, very experimental.

all the kinds of modern Indie Games:
-"roguelike" (slot machine)
-feelings
-unlock/tech tree simulator
-"god we hope northernlion plays this"
-crunchy first person shooter
-morrowind built by a single lunatic
Oh dang, yeah, this is from the same developer as Kura5, that excellent Boktai fangame from last year.
You should play that. It's free and very good, and uses internet weather services to simulate the light-sensor mechanic from the original GBA games.
O EMPIRE! WARD OFF THY ROT
