Today, eastern Tennessee’s area code 423 (incl. Chattanooga and Bristol but not Knoxville) gets an overlay with 729.

Originally planned for March, but postponed because of the flooding in large parts of the area.

You won’t see any actual 729 numbers for a while, not until 423 actually runs out.

That’s too many. It’s unsustainable. Canada is using far more than its fair share, clinging to outdated 20th-century policies that waste numbers by the tens of thousands.

California is adding an overlay to #telnum #AreaCode 530 later this week, not a moment too soon. Out of nearly 800 possible prefixes, they’re down to just 11 available.

Sadly, not for long. Columbia already capitulated.

The sort of question you’d be expected to answer in any job interview, going directly to the applicant’s UTTER LACK of any relevant experience.

As the Fox5NY article text mentions, existing phone numbers and area codes WILL NOT CHANGE. Adding an overlay code does NOT “get rid of” ANYTHING.
