It occurred to me that two of these photos look much better in color.
One I lightly cropped.

A sunny and cool midmorning walk.
I love the Sigma Quattro. It only really works when it is very bright outside, but when it is bright, you can't see the screen to frame a shot (and there is no viewfinder).
It reminds me of the adage that if you have to frame the shot, you've already lost.
It's a heck of a day to be writing about oil and photography. My timeline is filled with AI generated scenes of refineries ablaze as confused evidence for the sticky ubiquity of oil as a hyperobject.
The scenes generated by AI are actually more authentic expressions of oil than actual photographs.
Playing a bit with a shaft of sunlight.

Despite my pledge to spend more time on social media, post more, "engage" more, and so on, when I get busy I fall into old habits.
Anyway.
Here's a little still life: Behind the Microwave.
You know that Bud Light still exists, right? And Anheuser-Busch still exists.
25.02.2026 11:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why would they put the SOTU opposite the Sixers-Pacers game? It seems like they donβt want people to watch.
25.02.2026 00:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is brilliant. When is the SOTU? I need to calendar my "slips, trips, and falls" training video.

A black and white photo of a fence covered in snow.
A black and white photo of two pump valve things atop a flood wall covered in snow. The photo has a a Tatooine kind of vibe to it because the snow looks a bit like a sand dune.
A black and white photo of a fence, some pine trees, and a snow covered roof.

A black and white photo of a tree in a park, but the photo focuses on the shadow of the tree against a fresh layer of snow.
A black and white photo of a tree in a small town front yard. The tree is covered with snow and framed by a nearly buried white picket fence.
A black and white photo of a tree stretching out to the sky and to the left of the image.
My tree friends were showing out this morning because I showed up with my fancy Sony camera.

Stuff and snow.
20.02.2026 14:37 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Bill's chapter narrates how he turned a budget crisis into a teaching opportunity--he taught a course on the university budget, and equipped his students with the understanding and agency to advocate for *their* university--all as they produced an actual book! Teaching as activism, at its finest

The book cover shows an oil rig and appears to be splattered with oil. Vitoria Faccin-Herman designed the book cover. The book will appear in the first week of March from The Digital Press at the University of North Dakota: https://thedigitalpress.org/
Coming soon.

All the college and university "leaders" who chose to surrender in advance on this, take a bow
And then get in the fuckin sea
I teach historical methods and writing. I am not very good at teaching this stuff partly because I struggle to remember what if feels like to write (or really anything about doing it).
Is this common? Can other people remember how it feels or what the experience of writing is like?
I know there are far more important things in the world right now, but Iβll be annoyed if we donβt have a snow day tomorrow.
