Meh, some banal stuff about me. I like books, music, hockey, 'mingos, my grandchildren and tech. I am on Mastodon as @max_headroom@mindly.social. I am "watched the moon landing live" years old

Discworld QOTD, from Monstrous Regiment
โBeinโ a soldier is not hard! If it was, soldiers would not be able to do it! There is only three things you need to remember, which are, viz: one obey orders two give it to the enemy good and hard three donโt die.โ
โLook. You had five bones, right? Your friend Zooky comes over, stays awhile, then leaves. Now you have four bones, right? โฆ You donโt have to be a โLassieโ to figure this one out.โ

Hal hadnโt survived three Thanksgivings by being stupid.

Per @USGS, ALL volcanoes in the Cascades Range are currently at normal background activity levels.
Now is NOT the time, @dailymail.co.uk. ๐๐
I have learned a great deal on here from those I follow and from conversations with my followers. I have never learned a single thing from a random stranger's reply or scoldy quote post. That's not to say I never will; it's just never happened yet, and that's a fact.
20.11.2025 14:05 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Not looking forward to watching the internet be shocked, shocked, when the released Epstein Files mysteriously only implicate Democrats (or Republicans the current regime wants to punish), DJT comes off looking heroic, and everyone who saw something different before is silenced in some way or other.

I rely on sources that I have learned are (basically) trustworthy to summarize and critique. I lean heavily on Snopes.com for fact checking.

16.11.2025 21:03 โ ๐ 32 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Some of you may remember my asking around about different searches trying to find one that infuriates me less than Google - found one that not only doesn't annoy me but gives me good feelings.
I couldn't find one that doesn't use AI, but ECOSIA is actively trying to solve AI's environmental issues.
I'm lucky to have Matt to help me out; that makes the process go twice as fast - but it's important for me not to RELY on anyone other than me to get out of the hole, because no matter how well-meaning, other people are outside my control. My happiness can't be contingent on *anything* or anyone.
14.11.2025 19:43 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A number of years ago, when my FIL was institutionalized for dementia (in his 90's), we reached out to his old pastor who went over and (with the help of the staff) videoed him playing Amazing Grace on his tenor sax. I pull it out to watch every year or so on the anniv. of his passing.
Priceless
Weeellll, it finally happened. My MacBook that has been limping along for the last 2 years, appears to have finally given up the ghost. Good news is that I have full backups (Time Machine and CC). Bad news is MINIMUM investment to replace is $1,600.
