(a sweet pup i know had to be put down yesterday too. so it’s all just really fresh & salient right now.)

anyway, this all fits together neatly in my brain and is reassuring to me — reframing death not as decay, but as a vital LIFE process, a mystery, and something to usher our precious ones into with love.

then i saw how RW can be read as a continuation of Awake:

that struck me because this analogy of an egg is something i read in hospice literature & it resonated with me a lot as my dad was dying.

& that’s what running wild is about, too.

i was thinking abt the theme of “running” echoing through all of bts’s work, & what that says about them, & how they employ it. so i was watching old hyyh stuff & came across namjoon reading from herman hesse in the wings short film for jin’s “awake.”

i think about this one Mr. Roger’s quote all the time where he spoke about honoring those who have “loved us into being.” and as i’ve thought about death over the past several years (a LOT), i’ve come to view that process as one that is really about LIVING, right up until the moment you aren’t.

the music video shows the protective impulse to spare your pet (or child…or emotionally fragile fandom) from fear. because fear of loss only amplifies the pain.

it was my first encounter with death, & what i took away from it was how we loved her into the next world.

i remember we took her to her favorite lake and let her swim. fed her treats. i played in the sand. we wanted to make her last day a happy one. if you’ve ever been a pet parent you know how hard it is to make these decisions.

another thing running wild made me think of — a literal last day with a beloved pet. when i was 7, my parents unexpectedly pulled me
out of school early. one of our dogs was in kidney failure and it was time to let her go.

he embraces it as a miraculous gift that gives his life more meaning & that he is honored to share with us. he’s so wonderful. 😭 i feel so grateful that i have bts in my life, always challenging me to love harder & live better. 😭😭😭

jin has talked about how he feels fortunate to have the power to influence people positively, making us smile on our worst days, giving us something to look forward to when everything else is utter shit. it’s his superpower! & he isn’t afraid of the responsibility.
