I spotted Spark in the wild yesterday at the Stetson branch of the New Haven Free Public Library. It was such a thrill to see the book and such an honor to bring Jim West’s life story to young minds. Yay, #STEM.

Dr West was an expert in satellite geodesy. She used satellites to figure out the shape of the earth (or the geoid). This is a key bit of information needed to determine our elevation in GPS.

Sad news. Dr. Gladys West passed on January 18. She was a pioneer behind GPS. If you use GPS, you have Dr. Gladys West to thank.
