20.10.2025 21:32 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0@allisonpregler.bsky.social Needed a name for a ship in Star Trek Online &, well. What does a lifeguard know about being a starship captain? To explore strange new worlds (to have PTSD plots on), to seek out new life & new civilisations (for the saves), & to boldly not eat a lot of red meat.

For my friend's brithday, I'm making him a special copy of Lord of the Rings, where every song is replaced with the Supercar theme. So dar I'm up to page 377.
30.09.2025 16:22 โ ๐ 51 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Over on Gone & Forgotten today, it's the much-maligned 1987 ABC television adaptation of Will Eisner's The Spirit, starring Sam "Flash Gordon" Jones as the eponymous masked crimefighter and Nana "Deep Space 9" Visitor as the one castmember doing just about all of the heavy lifting. Go read:
24.09.2025 18:46 โ ๐ 41 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 3One of my fave YouTube series ever. Do yourself a favor & explore TV's most misjudged spinoff, featuring exploding frog women, killer dumpsters, scary trash bags, The Vampire, Romulus & Remus, & Griff, reviewed by someone with near-infinite enthusiasm for material that would flatten lesser mortals.
22.06.2025 15:10 โ ๐ 27 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It could be said that I have too many copies of UFO on Blu-ray, but that would be incorrect. (Since one of these is a DVD.)
21.05.2025 10:00 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Despite having the 4 disc version, the 11 disc 50th anniversary Doctor Who soundtrack set had somehow slipped my radar. This has now been rectified - & a thing of beauty it is too. Needed cleaning as I don't think it's been well looked after - but the light & sound still work!
12.04.2025 15:29 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0My novel finally has its very first rating on Amazon! A whole five stars. www.amazon.co.uk/Stingray-Tit...
27.03.2025 19:22 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also, as someone who lives for sightings of background artist/extra Mike Stevens & his legendary look of extreme concern he'd soon take on to Moonbase Alpha it was great to see him among the Moonbase 3 crew. The last episode seemed to accidentally suggest there were two of him, so win-win.
03.03.2025 21:29 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Exactly. And most men would only ask 'what if'? But these pioneers dared to make it a reality. And then burnt it.
03.03.2025 21:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So, Moonbase 3. Nowhere near as bad as its reputation suggested; far from spectacular either, but it occasionally climbed to impressive heights considering the limitations of its budget & production. Glad I've seen it, & a bit sad there's only 6 episodes. Will definitely rewatch.
03.03.2025 21:20 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yet the leads are all likable enough & gel well, & it's always fun trying to guess which of the semi-regulars will go mad this week. The final two episodes also raise the stakes quite significantly, with the finale being a genuinely gripping story that I wish had gone all the way.
03.03.2025 21:20 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There's also more than one episode that ends with someone saying "we thought that something unusual & interesting was going on - thank goodness it turned out to have a thoroughly scientific & rational explanation! As you can see on this detailed diagram/map/scale model I've prepared..."
03.03.2025 21:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I don't think it'd win an award for, well, anything; the pacing rarely exceeds glacial & a lot of it is oddly dressed people arguing in plastic porta cabins. But then again, I like good actors arguing in old UK shows. (Particularly when you're also trying to guess what accent they're doing.)
03.03.2025 21:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Finally seen Moonbase 3. The DVD's been on my shelf for years, but like Star Maidens the received wisdom of 'it's bad' meant I never got round to it...so, like Star Maidens, going in with such low expectations meant I found it surprisingly enjoyable - & even gripping on occasion!
03.03.2025 21:18 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Loved your review of Stingray The Big Gun today! Been my favourite episode since I was a kid, every department firing on all cylinders. And I especially love the fearsome Mighty Leader plotting to overthrow the terraineans while swinging back & forth on his comfortable pink garden furniture.

Thanks to a price drop at CeX & enough trade-in vouchers to cover most of it, I finally caught my DVD white whale - Network's release of The Gold Robbers! No doubt DCS Cradock would be proud of my persistence in tracking it down. ("Aye lad - but who's behind CeX? That's what I wanna find out!")

05.01.2025 21:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This year's Christmas Eve double feature, though by now I really should know not to have Muppet Christmas Carol as the 1st film of a double since the 2nd always suffers from the absence of Mr. Dickens & Rizzo. And now I wish Peter Cushing had worked with the Muppets.

22.12.2024 10:21 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Loving the double dose of Moore-era Bond soundtracks from @lalalandrecords.bsky.social this week! Moonraker in particular is a gorgeous listen, some of John Barry's finest work for the series.
