Admittedly, this is just from my still pretty limited experience with the genre as whole tbf. I think elements of auto-combos could be fine (like maybe leading into a launcher or something). But the ones I've come across go overboard with making it way too buttob-mashy.

Modern controls, at least when done right, still require you to put in the time to learn what works and what doesn't. You still need to understand the game mechanics to perform well. Auto-combos usually just encourage spamming one, maybe two, buttons in a way that doesn't encourage you to experiment

Yeah like I'm fine with things like more modern controls and accessibility options, but auto-combos playing the game for you just takes away so much of the appeal of actually learning how to play the game.

I don't think anybody has to watch it. It's basically a series of colours and shapes on screen with nothing ever happening. Some YouTubers of the era show up. Also Stone Cold. That's about it.
