Universal Counterdiabatic Driving Local counterdiabatic (CD) driving provides a systematic way of constructing a control protocol to approximately suppress the excitations resulting from changing some parameter(s) of a quantum system ...

What a day for counterdiabatic driving research!

2 new massive papers on the arXiv:

* "Universal Counterdiabatic Driving" from Morawetz & Polkovnikov arxiv.org/abs/2503.01952

* "Counterdiabatic Driving with Performance Guarantees" from Finลพgar et al arxiv.org/abs/2503.01958

Speeding Up Quantum Measurement Using Space-Time Trade-Off A new scheme can speed up quantum measurement in different physical platforms through a space-time trade-off --- using additional ancillary qubits in place of longer measurement time.

Our paper "Speeding Up Quantum Measurement Using Space-Time Trade-Off" was finally published recently in PRL and has received Editors' Suggestion! :))

Thank you to Chris Corlett, Andrew Daley, Cica Gustiani, Gerard Pelegrรญ and Jonathan Pritchard for all the work!

Iโ€™ve lost the will to be publicly excited about science or engaging with joy and honesty the way I normally do. Iโ€™ve sort of lost faith in humanity as a whole. Need to figure out what to do to make it better first.

WW2 was always taught as this madness that took over Europe, where people did despicable, inhumane things as if lost in a trance. Always seemed weird to me. But I kinda see how it happened now.

Evil people will always exist. Fear and ignorance will always exist. Hell, death and war have always been around, only shifting their battlegrounds. Itโ€™s the rolling over and taking it that I find terrifying.

Itโ€™s really not the fact that itโ€™s happening as much as it is the fact that there is so little appropriate reaction

Aaand this is now published! :) The code repo is available for anyone who want to play around with computing non-adiabatic effects for their Hamiltonian.

I plan to write a quick blogpost on the results, so keep an eye out!

A Simple and Combinatorial Approach to Proving Chernoff Bounds and Their Generalizations The Chernoff bound is one of the most widely used tools in theoretical computer science. It's rare to find a randomized algorithm that doesn't employ a Chernoff bound in its analysis. The standard pro...

I love this paper by Bill Kuszmaul.
His proof of Chernoff bound is much more illuminating than the standard algebraic proof I learned.

The second is "Speeding up quantum measurement using space-time trade-off", a project I spent a lot of time on & thought would never go anywhere, if it weren't for Chris Corlett and all the wonderful folks at Bristol/Strathclyde who put it together!

Today I was asked in an interview about folks who use the weirdness of โœจquantumโœจ to hawk pseudoscience junk. I think that kind of grift proliferates because of a big misunderstanding a lot of folks have about quantum mechanics, which is not really their fault!

What a fascinating read. TIL that the information rate for humans tasks in almost always at most 10bit/s
(but that our senses gather that at 10^8 times that speed!)
