I think that by and large, these are people who couldn't get into good schools living out their revenge fantasy.

This has always been one of my favorites. It's astonishingly powerful.

So Hegseth is attacking Scouting America for treating trans kids with respect, including respecting their chosen names... at the same time he demands you respect the made up name for his department, which he changed illegally without congressional approval.

If Netflix capitulates, I'll cheerfully cancel my subscription, which I've held since the DVD-in-an-envelope era. It would be cool if a million others joined me.

One word: mustache. And I assume you know what kind of mustache.

No, that's alcohol. This is what a joint looks like. On behalf of all dads everywhere. I apologize for even thinking of this joke, let alone posting it.

I've always seen Versailles as a cautionary tale, but I do like the gardens.

I used to read about countries like this (which we called "banana republics"). I would chortle and feel superior, and wonder how any country could act that way in the modern era.

More looting the treasury. I will not enjoy paying my taxes this year. It used to feel like a civic duty, now it feels like tribute to a tyrant.

No, this the eighth *known* death in ICE custody in the last seven weeks. I'll wager that the actual figure is higher.

This is not what democracy looks like. I believe the technical term for it is "looting the treasury."

Former South Korean president receives life sentence for imposing martial law in 2024 Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been sentenced to life in prison for his brief imposition of martial law to suppress the opposition.

This is how it works in a functioning democracy. We too had a president who led an insurrection, but he was not given a life sentence (or any sentence at all, for that matter).

YouTube video by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Rep. James Talarico On Confronting Christian Nationalism, And Strange Days In The Texas Legislature

Only ~480,000 of you have watched this FCC-banned Late Show interview. Surely another 20,000 of you would like to watch it, if only to teach Brendan Carr about the Barbara Streisand effect. youtu.be/oiTJ7Pz_59A

Welcome to the kakistocracy. I will never forgive my well-educated colleagues who supported him. They knew better, but they did it anyway, out of misguided self-interest.

That's great! I always wanted to catch a glimpse of an aurora too. I took a 1-night vacation to Boise last November to attempt it. It didn't look like much to the naked eye (a dull red & green glow in the North after 3 hours in the cold), but I got a nice picture, even nicer after post-processing:

Shouldn't the latest FBI Epstein document dump (you know, the one that prominently features features Trump and Musk) be called the "pedo-files"? (Asking for a friend.)

U.S. government has lost more than 10,000 STEM Ph.D.s since Trump took office A Science analysis reveals how many were fired, retired, or quit across 14 agencies

Imagine my surprise. This is a kakistocracy, a government that fears expertise and, intelligence, and competence.
