Holy shot! Are you telling me that each these is a single twenty minute exposure? I'm impressed. Actually I'm impressed regardless of how many subs you took. These are really nice. Should I switch from Siril to PixInsight?

Orion rising over a hilltop from Bread Rock overpass, with a SAR arc in the background from the ongoing geomagnetic storm (November 13, 2025).
I visited Boise last night for the express purpose of seeing and/or photographing the northern lights. While I was waiting for some action, I took a phone picture (stack) of Orion rising behind a hill. I was surprised and pleased to see a SAR arc photobombing Orion.

This is not an astronomy photograph, but it is out of this world. If you're in the Bay Area, you owe it to yourself to try Hana Izumi in Milbrae.

Northern lights viewed from Bread Rock overpass, slightly north of Boise Idaho, early on November 14, 2025.
Success! I did not see the aurora with the naked eye (except perhaps a slight red glow to the north), but I captured it with my camera:

I'm currently at the Bread Rock overlook. It's pretty (when the clouds part), but no lights (that I can see) yet.

I agree, though I haven't gotten really good at using it (on my 8" cat, which does have an EAF). I plan to up my game so refocusing really is painless, and yes, I'll probably install one on the SQA55 eventually.

Looks like Cornell "did a Columbia." I predict that it will gain them nothing and harm them as an institution. How can these people be so dumb?
07.11.2025 18:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Yes. I made the same decision with regard to Columbia. I truly do not understand why these once-great institutions are caving to the nonsensical demands of a petty tyrant. Appeasement never works, and often has disastrous consequences.

For the last 17 years, Chrome was my browser. Sadly, today is my last day as a Chrome user. Google made good on its threat to end support for Manifest V2 extensions, making it impossible to run uBlock Origin in Chrome. Today's web is unusable to me without the functionality provided by uBlock Origin

I'm a little late with this, but R.I.P. Tom Matano, father of the Miata (MX-5). My Miata is nearly identical to the one he's standing next to in this picture. I've owned a red NA since 1990 (when they first came out). Tom gave joy to so many people. www.caranddriver.com/news/a680045...

Our three cars are 15, 25, and 35 years old. If you care about total lifetime carbon emissions, cars should last 25 years. I challenge you to find a 25-year-old computer interface that isn't hopelessly obsolete. The problem is real. It affects appliances as well as cars.
