Invisible Storm Lights Up Galaxy Cluster With Record-Breaking Radio Glow A vast, glowing halo enveloping a galaxy cluster has been discovered, defying expectations and pointing to turbulent cosmic forces as its power source.

A huge cloud of energised particles (known as a radio halo) revealed in new radio observations of a galaxy cluster 5 billion light years away. It’s the largest one ever seen, 20 million light years across πŸ§ͺπŸ” scitechdaily.com/invisible-st...

Our global petition to save NASA science closes this Thursday, and we’re just shy of 15,000 signatures! Every name counts, this petition will be hand-delivered to members of Congress. Add yours today, Save NASA Science.

More here.

Chandra and Fermi also gone. Probes cancelled (so much work for nothing).

Hard to fathom why any sane person would do this, and hoping that there is a sane majority in Congress.

Is this higher than normal? By how much? It sounds like a good thing but as at least an astronomer if there’s no grad places for the many seeking them, is that good ? Usually in times of bad economy we have more seeking grad school than there are places

Thin filaments in the tails of A2255, by DeRubeis+ (w/ myself, @jurjen93.bsky.social+)
A2255 is known to be a "mess" (arxiv.org/abs/2006.04808). The new @LOFAR-VLBI images add further complexity in the system, this time revealing small-scale structures in its radio galaxies

Blinking radio pulses from space hint at a cosmic object that β€˜shouldn’t exist’ The slowest β€˜cosmic lighthouse’ ever found challenges our understanding of how neutron stars work.

Check out this new cosmic weirdo discovered using @csiro.bsky.social's ASKAP telescope! It spins so slowly that you could watch both the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers and still have time leftover before it finishes a full rotation
