I've always loved Barn Quilts and thought there was game design potential there—this looks like a really clever game! I'd love to play it at Unpub if I get the chance.

It's my birthday today! Woohoo! I'm 42 (but mentally still in 2006, hah!)
I'd be so grateful if you shared my art today!

A playtest of "I Spirate" the other night. Not sure there's enough there to pursue it, but it was a fun, goofy activity.

First time I powered it up it made an otherworldly screech and damaged itself due to a manufacturing defect 😑 I'm determined to get it working someday but it has not been smooth sailing.

...and the crew (and saboteur) gives clues using only cardinal directions.
If the captain says the name of the object the treasure is hidden behind, they win with the crew. But if they say the cursed object, the saboteur wins.
This is going to work very well or very poorly 🏴☠️
A plastic tube with a small hole in one end, an eye patch, a tiny sparkly gold cube, and a small wooden moose token.
I present: "I Spirate."
All the components are pictured here. You just need an area with lots of hiding spots for small objects.
The "crew" hides the treasure behind an object, then a saboteur secretly hides the curse token. A "captain" player uses spyglass to describe what they see...

It's a riot. One of the few games I had success teaching to summer school kids—I had groups of ~12 kids for only 30 minutes at a time, and this game had them locked in.

Thanks for these answers, Luis! The playtest data section is definitely intriguing. My schedule is fairly busy right now as I'm a developer on two games (and project lead on one of them), but I will probably take you up on this someday.

After you joined my Discord I was taking a look at Boardssey! Looks pretty slick. Right now I track everything in Google Sheets and wouldn't mind getting away from it.
Can I import card data csv files? And is there a way for me to locally back up things stored on Boardssey?
Disclosure: I’ve not played this game nor even watched the video.
I am backing it to reward a theme and vision so endearing I want it to succeed.

Y'all, this game is such a delight.
Great theme. Deeply rewarding and satisfying gameplay loop. Clever asymmetrical co-op puzzly-ness.
And don't get me started on what a kind person the designer is ❤️
Last week I judged a few Cardboard Edison Award game design entries. The first round includes a 3min video + rulebook. It's unfortunate that pitching and game design are different skillsets, which means brilliant designs may fall to the wayside if not pitched effectively. (1/3)

Are you going to be at GAMA? I'll be there with @pandagm.com . I'd love to chat with you about quoting, designing with manufacturing in mind, or anything else!

Of course! Though I had little to do with it—this was @pickpocket.games's initiative.

Small note on this step: I picked up Illustrated Signs and Symbols Sourcebook by Adele Nozedar from a local library for inspiration and research. Factored this into my time calculation here.
I think I'll lose the "Runes" theme at some point but this was a good starting point.
I feel I'm at the 50% mark here after 6.5 hours—which as all game designers know means I have 150 hours for the second 50% (and the last 10% is 100 hours)—then I can start pitching! Next step is the big one: playtesting with as many people as I can.
Thanks for joining me for this little story!
A screenshot of a Screentop.gg prototype, featuring several cards with runes, numbers, and abilities arranged in a hand, in decks, in a tableau, and in a run.
Step 5: Solo playtest! It works surprisingly well. Turn flow (play a card to a run, draw a card) is satisfying and the gameplay loop (finish runs to play cards with ongoing abilities) is engaging and meaningful. It's a game!
