On average, flying is cheaper than taking the train. About 50%.
Partly because there are less taxes on flights.
Absurd!

1. ITT vs. actually received treatment: important discussion which still needs to be done for the pediatric antidepressant (TADS) trial regarding rates of treatment emergent suicidality.
Fluoxetine vs. placebo: ITT: 15 vs. 11%, n.s.
Actually treated with fluoxetine: 11% vs. 2.7% (p < 0.02)

Agree. However, they found one significant interaction treatment x sex: a larger drug-placebo difference between men and women on day 2.
HTE? Ore more likely a false positive finding, given there were 4 subscales of the MADRS and 6 time points and no adjustment of alpha

Tomorrow talk (hosted by University of Cambridge/CPFT Lunchtime Psychiatry Seminars) with R. Lyus and @ploederl.bsky.social will explore how a single “zombie” trial can meaningfully influence network meta-analyses and, in turn, shape clinical guidelines on antidepressant use in adolescents.

Reminds me of Border et al. (2019) on the serotonin transporter gene and this great blogpost: slatestarcodex.com/2019/05/07/5...
450 (!) preceding studies on the topic, most of them with a positive association. Then came Border et al.'s very large and well-conducted study reporting a null-finding.
Review on lithium: "lithium carbonate remains a first-line treatment for bipolar disorder, supported by robust evidence of ... reduction of suicide risk (Cipriani et al., 2013; Nabi et al., 2022,...).
However, we (Nabi et al.) reported that the evidence is inconclusive for suicides.
198 effect sizes in ego depletion resesrch showed an effect size of d=0.62. Preregistered large replications (including some by original authors) yielded an effect size of 0. No one has been able to offer any other explanation for this huge research waste than massive p-hacking.

Interesting start to the week:
Paper rejected with the justification that the journal does not accept pre-registrations or manuscripts that are based on pre-registrations 🤔🤪

Precision psychiatry? Study on gender-specific esketamine response. Some gender diffs but irrespective of group (esk/placebo). Only one significant gender x treatment interaction, on a specific day, with a specific outcome: p = 0.02. It did not occur to authors that this is likely a false positive
