Child-friendly placemaking needs more awareness!

We see benefits from it with where we can take our kids easily, but that has carry on benefits to any of our friends and families that like to do things with us.

Solar and wind are conservative punching bags. They're also winning the fight Conservative politicians in North America love pretending that wind and solar can't possibly compete with fossil fuels. They might want to pay closer attention to what's happening in the rest of the w...

Take heart, friends: There's actually a hugely positive story out there about wind and solar energy -- and it's one the North American fossil fuel industry and conservative politicians in its thrall can't do anything to stop.

I kind of liked the regency room until I saw the creepy doll in the corner.

It looks like the house has a solar system that isn’t mentioned at all in the details… but looking at the exterior photos, do people there just hate trees or something? There’s basically no trees on that entire block.

HUGE legal victory: @cycletoronto.bsky.social has won its Charter challenge of the Ford government's legislation requiring removal of Toronto bike lanes! Justice Schabas ruled that the law puts cyclists at increased risk of harm and death which engages the right to life and security of the person.

Last night a retired combat veteran and horse breeder Bonnie Critchley with no political background called out an unemployed career politician Pierre Poilievre for coming into her riding and pretending he gives a shit about her neighbours and stacking the audience. Legend.

Big points-

Forecasting smoke is hard, and random smoke concentrations can occur locally.

Know about how to find the best local air quality data. (Info is in the article!!) Good info on πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ resources too.

More research, funding, and education on wildfire smoke and air quality data still needed.

I can’t speak to the belt fan, but getting in outdoor time in the forest during the heat is great. No pavement to soak up heat.

Just picking a shady street to walk on goes a long way. My street has no trees, the street a block over has good trees, and that feels like a huge difference by itself.

I just absolutely can’t imagine having the time to β€œresearch” everything that governments already advise me to do, typically based on actual thorough research.

Wash my hands after using the washroom? Cook chicken thoroughly? Who knows. My pal Jordo only washes his hands once a week, he seems legit.

Rasmus Jarlov on Twitter writes: "There is nothing to celebrate. Moving from average tariffs of less than 2% on trade between the USA and Europe to 15% under today’s deal will inevitably lead to inflation. Almost everything will become more expensive in both Europe and the USA, and we will all be worse off. The economic illiteracy in the White House is doing serious damage to the West."

Stylish Skunk replies: "I have a feeling you have 0 idea what you're talking about.

In fact I know you do."

Rasmus Jarlov responds: "Of course. I am former minister of trade in Denmark and you are an anonymous Twitter profile. You probably know a lot more than me. For sure."

I’m convinced a ton of people don’t know grocery carts exist, let alone stair climbing grocery carts.

The replies to this are all stoked on grocery carts. It’s great.

More grocery cart awareness could probably boost some car free grocery shopping. I almost never see one used.

Thinking of trying this approach with my students:

Ask them first: Would you say that you're a better or worse writer than the average person writing stuff online?

Then tell them: If you're a better writer than the average person on the internet, using AI will probably make you worse.

It is a bunch of unaccountably sanctimonious randos and we reject everything they're saying.

Stay a safe temperature. Stay alive. Stop burning fossil fuels.

I loved Marseille but can’t really remember what I actually did there. 15 years is a while.

There was a nice Christmas market at the old port as I was there at that time of year, and the walk up to the cathedral was nice.

I think prairie grasslands are vastly under appreciated, so this long thread on grasslands makes me happy.

My experience with native prairie is from Saskatchewan, a decent ways from New Mexico, but some of the same plants.

Native grassland makes crested wheat grass look sad by comparison.

Legally a moped so no motorcycle licensing needed.

20 mph mode β€œfor city bike lanes” kind of bothers me. I’ve seen some hefty e-bikes on MUPs in Ottawa and I’m not convinced they’re a safe addition to the mix.

I could see a lot of people who might not do an e-bike riding stuff like this. Plus, πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

I’ve only actually been inside one, and I remember absolutely hating the idea of walking in a door and then immediately up a long flight of stairs.

I remember thinking from a paramedicine perspective that it would be an annoying layout to respond to a medical call and transport a patient from.

He went missing on Vancouver Island. A whistle and a makeshift sledge got him home | CBC News Dallin Beaumier recalls the harrowing trek up and down from Della Falls, B.C., including car troubles, wildlife encounters and an unexpected ending to the whole ordeal.

I was briefly thinking the two day walking requirement might be an exaggeration, but an extremely similar situation made the news in Canada recently with a guy pushing his luck in an old car in the more remote part of Vancouver Island.

I think an e-MTB with panniers would give tons of mobility.
