Should the Yankees sign Walker for 1B or trade for Bellinger?

I still think many teams will be willing to risk big $$$ on him. I do think the Yankees will show some interest if they don’t find a long term 1B solution this offseason.

This combination of issues limits his contract expectations and it also limits the number of suitors. I still have some hope that his offensive game can improve to overcome his swing/miss but I’m not bullish on his defense. Sluggish in the field and he doesn’t have a lot of athletic ability.

Munetaka Murakami has the potential to be a monster in the heart of any lineup. What concerns me after watching him for a few years is:

1) potential to be a low average slugger due to swing and miss.
2) very limited on defense (most likely an average 1B or a DH).

Known interest on Shunpeita Yamashita:

I doubt anyone takes on Bellinger’s contract.

NPB scout: “Yankees have a very strong presence here, similar to LA (Dodgers). They may not be as aggressive as other teams but it isn’t a lack of DD. They were very much one of the favorites to land Yamamoto but it didn’t work out. They’ve been in on all of the big arms who made the move.”

A Cody Bellinger for Marcus Stroman (+ prospect package) would be a win for the Yankees. Stroman to offset cost and Cubs could get him to eat 140+ innings next year. Yankees get a leadoff hitter and 1B.

I think the Mets and Red Sox offer a little more $$$ but Soto stays in the Bronx.

Not exactly. A lot needs to go right for it to be the shit.

The Yankees have some high ceiling chips (Dominguez, Arias, Mayea) who could be very valuable (either trade or potential MLB starters). A scout had some good points: “system has a good mix of young arms that can move quickly along with some offensive pieces that can net some good value.”

NPB Scout on Yankees interest in Sasaki: “heavy scouting presence over the years. Could be one of the bigger players if he decides to pass on a home in California.”

No question about it. King for Soto was a no-brainer.

The Yankees will need good seasons from Henry Lalane and Chase Hampton to get their pitching prospect situation back on track. It was a down year for the system on the starting pitching side. Ben Hess is also someone who could give the system a boost as well.

Roderick Arias taking some steps forward with his plate discipline would be huge for their infield projections as well. Hitting on one of Lombard Jr. or Arias would help offset some of the infield costs down the road.

Arias will be 20 to start the 2025 season. Plenty of room to grow.

Minor league scout on Durbin: “I think he’ll be a nightmare for pitchers on the bases if he can maintain a high OBP. Great instincts on the bases and he should be a threat to steal every time.”

Acquiring a good leadoff hitter would be a smart move for the Yankees. They need a consistent plate setter.

Volpe may be an option but he isn’t consistent. I wonder which direction they go with the leadoff spot.
