Since learning of my heart condition two years ago, I’ve wanted to become more involved in the disability community. (Ironically, the lack of energy from my condition got in my way.) But now seems like a great time to get engaged, and this event is the perfect opportunity. I hope you can join me!

I ran for state rep. I think a lot of Chicagoans get confused because our aldermanic elections are nonpartisan so you can only sign one candidate’s petition.

Because these are partisan elections, you can actually sign as many petitions for a single office as you want as long as you stay within one party.

I miss a lot of things about Chicago Twitter. He is not one of them.

Easy litmus test for the many, many candidates in Illinois' 9th CD: Did they bother to post something about the Big Bullshit Bill today? Dems need to do more than complain about the GOP's horrible policies on social media. But that doesn't mean that they should just not complain on social media.

Oppressed people have to do hard things every day. It should be the job of government to shoulder the work of doing hard things instead. People in power should stop saying “unrealistic” or “impossible” when what they mean is “we don’t want to have to do hard things.”

It's hard to think of anywhere this paradox is more pronounced than Northwestern, where the university is stifling free speech, failing to stand up for faculty & capitulating to the administration at every turn - after decades of keeping a Holocaust denier on faculty. Sad to be a Wildcat these days.

To be fair, none of the House sponsors switched up after the bill was shelled out & the Senate didn’t send their version to the House until overnight. Buckner is a chief co of the House transit bill. But yes, all our area legislators should be actively involved in figuring out a transit solution.

I'm glad that Daniel Biss announced his Congressional run. Mostly because I've always really liked him. (We nerds in politics need to stick together!) But also because I hope that having more authentic candidates who actually live in the 9th CD will lead to hearing less from/about the carpetbagger.
