He Came to the U.S. to Support His Sick Child. He Was Detained. Then He Disappeared. Like most of the more than 230 Venezuelan men deported to a Salvadoran prison, Josรฉ Manuel Ramos Bastidas had followed U.S. immigration rules. Then Trump rewrote them.

We are eagerly awaiting the return of our client, Mr. Ramos Bastidas.

Stay tuned for updates.

"We are grateful that Judge Briones saw through ICE's baseless accusations & granted Cesar & Noreliaโ€™s habeas petition so that they can return home to DC and be with their family," said @sshebaya.bsky.social from @nipnlg.bsky.social. Yesterday, Judge Briones, like Judges Harvey, Brinkema, and Berton before him, ordered Cesar & Norelia released. The absurdity of the situation was not lost on him as he ended the hearing and order by noting โ€œLet's see what court you're going to go to next.โ€ 10/

El Paso judge rips ICE over Venezuelan coupleโ€™s detention, orders their release A couple has been repeatedly detained by immigration officials despite intervention by judges.

Last week, the couple traveled to El Paso for a court hearing. At the hearing, Judge Berton ruled that they remain free until their next hearing. Yet, as they were boarding their flight home to reunite with their children, ICE detained them yet again. 9/

On Mar 28th, Judge Brinkema ordered Cesar & Norelia released after their first habeas petition hearing in Virginia, during which she told the govt their work in the case was "shoddy" and that "[they] don't have it." A statement that was later echoed by Judge Briones. 7/

Venezuelan couple detained again by ICE after judge ordered their release The couple was driving in Suitland, Md. with their 4-year-old son when authorities stopped the vehicle and arrested them, their lawyer and relatives said.

On Mar 13th, the couple was ordered released by Judge Harvey, but were instead briefly detained by ICE before being released. Less than 10 days later, ICE once again unlawfully detained them and separated them from their children. 6/

This is despite the fact that both Cesar and Norelia have TPS and pending asylum applications, which means the government should not be able to detain them on the basis of their immigration status. 5/

Venezuelan couple arrested and charged with illegal entry โ€” two years after crossing into the U.S. The couple, who live in Washington, D.C., have temporary deportation protections and pending asylum claims. Advocates say the case could set legal precedent.

Judge Briones is the fourth federal judge across three states to order the couple released since they were first detained on March 10th in DC on illegal entry charges from when they crossed the border in 2022. 4/ www.latimes.com/politics/sto...

In his order, Judge Briones expressed concern about ICE's contradictory claims when it came to accusing the couple, Cesar & Norelia, of being Tren de Aragua members. A sentiment shared by Judge Brinkema who presided over the couples' first habeas petition a month ago. 3/

Importantly, the judge also ordered that the govt has to give 21-day notice to anyone detained under the AEA in the Western District of Texas, that includes the right to seek judicial review and consult an attorney, and be written in a language the person understands. 2/

What we're seeing with Mahmoud Khalil is frightening in how deportation can and will be used to retaliate against community members who speak out. This case is an example of how surveillance under an increasingly authoritarian government puts all of us in peril.
