With notebook in hand, Nene would then learn everything she needed to know. She wrote to herself about her best friend Rui, his magic, the past she WANTED to have, and a passion she wished to explore as a human, singing. Smiling at her friend, she sighed. Things were perfect. END

“Hello Rui, I am… I am…” A panic washed over her WHO is she? She can’t remember her name, how she got here, why her hair is wet! Wait. Why is her hair wet? “Why is my hair WET?”

Out of the water, steps Nene, now fully human. She looks and spots someone with purple hair staring at her expectantly. “He…Hello. Where am I?”

“Before I forget… thank you Rui for everything. I Hope we will remain friends after I forget. The only thing I’m sad to forget, is you.”

With a voice as loud as she could muster, she screams “I’M HERE”

Resolve strengthened and notebook finished, nene swam to the river point nearest to Rui’s house. She wrote down everything she wanted to remember, and everything she didn’t. She also wrote a note to Rui that she had stashed inside Robonene that she hopes he finds next time he tinkers on her.

“I don’t care what the cost may be. I’ll write down what I think is most important for me to know about myself and give it to you Rui. When you think I’m ready, give it to me to read. I cannot stay in the water and live in fear that my family will find me and drag me back anymore.”

But if she stays, she risks being taken back and living a miserable life. That settles it. She’ll take the risk

“Lose my memories?” She questioned. Should she still go through with it? If she gains her legs she escapes the water forever, free from familial expectations and an arranged marriage but forgets everything about the sea, including her family.

Nene was shocked, to say the least. She was always told the little mermaid had lost her voice but it never occurred to her that maybe she didn’t lose her voice, but instead lost her memory of how to sing and talk. No wonder she was never seen again.
