I always loved the idea of finding a cheap live music show at a place like the Teragram or El Rey or one of the Sunset Strip clubs. If it sucks after a few songs, you can bail and not be out much $$$. If it's cool, you've found some new music to explore.

I appreciate that kids movies nowadays have adult-oriented jokes. (Good way to keep the parents interested) But some live-action fare might be cool too. My kid has just discovered the original Jumanji so I'm excited to watch that with him.

I can agree with that, too.

Plus it would be nice to have some piece of entertainment in a cool, dark place when the weather is hot.

I'm not saying it would save theaters. But I also know how much time I spent at movie theaters as a kid in the summer. Sometimes seeing the same flick multiple times. Just a thought.

I joked with my dad that he retired and got more busy. It's not quite as funny anymore.

I'm trying not to be doomer about things. I'm trying to really live "Hope is a discipline". It's why I'm scrolling and posting here less. But seeing a story like that and asking yourself why it's necessary can't help but eat at your soul a little bit.

It's a reminder that our physical and mental wellbeing is dictated by the goodwill of large companies that mostly see us as a line item on a spreadsheet. And now we've reached a point where even a certain level of fame and perceived success doesn't shield you from that uncertainty.

Unless my ultimate plan to move to a small hut in a Caribbean fishing village eventually pans out.

I'm not rich but I'm fortunate to make a good living doing a non-essential job. But I'm resigned to the fact that it could be awhile before I can retire. In part, because I have a young son who will continue to need health care.
