A picture of my """bag""" prototype dangling by the cinched up drawstring. Instead of the printed stripes and appliqued hearts of the real article, this prototype has a plain blue fabric body. Lace was used at the bottoms instead of ruffled minky. Sure looks scrotal, doesn't it.
Here's some early drawn concepts for the factory to follow. They outline a lot of the specifics that go into the """bag"""'s construction. Like what parts should be printed or appliqued, what materials to use, and how the drawstring is to behave.
When we moved away from a lace bottom, I made a ruffled edge sample to show how it can be done.
I claim partial responsibility for Fangamer's latest travesty. Trucy's Magic """Bag""" is a shorts pattern in essence. Here are some of my prototype pictures and factory instructions.

Could I humbly request that Dropout's social media cools it on videos with so many spoilers, especially so close to an episode's airing date? I'm going out of my way to avoid these posts so I don't ruin any fun surprises before I've had a chance to watch the episode. Thanks for your consideration!

The first prototype of the Jormungandr puppet. He's tropical orange and raspberry red colored. Plus his tail is a stubby little thing. My hand is inserted in a pouch at his neck which allows me to manipulate his mouth.
Another pic of the prototype Jormungandr puppet, showing his open mouth. He only has one set of jaws at this point.
Here's a pic of the inner lining of Jormungandr turned inside out. The geometry of his body was challenging to tackle, because the inner lining has to allow for your hand to stick into and has to connect to certain parts of the exterior. It also must allow stuffing to pass through in certain areas, all while keeping in mind that the factory must be able to manufacture the puppet in a logical manner. It felt like I was making two plushies at the same time which were ouroboros'ed inside each other.
Proto and production sample of Jormungandr about to make out. You can see a ton of improvements in the production version, like cool blue scaled fabric, mesmerizing safety eyes, and a touch of thread sculpting between the nostrils to bring a bit more dimension to his schnoz.
I prototyped the recently released Jormungandr puppet from Fangamer! Or at least a wacky colored baby version of him.

Four pictures of my Storch plushie prototype. Imagine if you will... a hunched potato body with a tapering, striped carrot head and stumpy striped legs. And it's in light green, pink, and orange candy colors. Because this is a prototype meant to show construction, it doesn't have to be game accurate and I can use whatever colors I want!
The Corrupted Storch plushie from Signalis is available at Fangamer! Despite how simple it looks, it has a deceptively complicated construction. That's because the stripes are actually cones, with each strip of fabric curved slightly differently in order to achieve a soft tapered candy-corn shape.

Four pictures of the Broken Vessel character plushie. They are a hunched-over jar-headed bug with a cape, curved horns, and a huge bulbous mass of orange infection growing out their head. They have weighted pellets in their body and legs sticking straight out, which greatly help them from tipping over.
The earlier version of Broken Vessel is pictured alongside the final prototype for comparison. Instead of a body and cape, their body is simply a kinda stump from which leg-tentacles extrude. Originally, I was instructed to make their body like the Shade plushie, just with more tentacles. I suppose the idea was that it simplified BV's body, so we didn't have to make the whole complicated body and cape. Well, sometimes it's best to do things without any shortcuts. So I went rogue, design-wise, and made the body and cape without further oversight and was like "Here! What do you think??"
Here's the Broken Vessel prototype, from the Hollow Knight game. This plushie presented unique balancing and asymmetry challenges, as I wanted to preserve their hunched, sickly in-game posture. The second picture includes an even earlier prototype, when they had a more tentacle-like body.

A tote bag made of red fabric and custom printed canvas. The print on it has Mr. Saturns from Earthbound in a number of poses. Like in a 5-stack ladder, hopped up on mushrooms, showing his butt, etc. I drew them and got the fabric printed! There's also a Mr. Saturn plushie I made, hanging out to help sell the photo.
A shoulder bag I made with Kirby fabric and an embroidered Samus leaning back, enjoying a tropical drink. A Metroid in a sunhat is hanging out with her. And I got a Fusion Samus keychain as an accessory. This is my current daily bag. Delightfully eclectic!
A blue shoulder bag with a Samus helmet applique and embroidered text that says "SEE YOU NEXT MISSION". This was my previous daily bag. I like my personal bags to have piping, as it helps add structure and a bit of class.
A beige shoulder bag with green-taupe piping and straps. I embroidered autumn and winter Sawsbucks and Deerlings on it. It was a gift to a friend who loves Pokemon and deer!

Bow Kid plushie prototype from four different angles. She's a big-eyed girl with dark curly hair held back by a blue ribbon headband, a collared green jacket, and a tiered blue skirt. One of the angles includes an upskirt shot, showing her white panties. Hey, it's not pervy! It's important to include these kinds of angles in the initial photoshoot, in case anyone has a problem with it. Because of course the customer will turn her around immediately and see the panties once Bow Kid is in their hands. The devs indeed wanted her panties changed into purple shorts. You're welcome, for my non-pervy insight.
Any fans of Hat in Time? Here's my prototype of the official Bow Kid plushie. Obviously she's has some crazy hair, but she's got many other little delightful details. At least, I find them delightful, from a construction standpoint! You can read more about her here www.metroidhat.com/ridley/bowki...

The price of human labor is more impactful than the cost of raw materials. When it comes to plushies, sewing five long seams is often just as difficult to sew as five tiny seams.

Four small plushies from the Hollow Knight series: Wanderer Knight, Grub, Hornet, and Myla. These small plushies are 3.5-4 inches high and have loops of cord for hanging off a backpack.
Once upon a time, I prototyped these Hollow Knight backpack clings. Fangamer still sells them, but we haven't made any more plushies of this size. That's because, even though they're much smaller, they're not proportionally cheaper or easier to produce than a full sized plushie.

An Articuno plushie photographed at several different angles. The main body and legs are suede, while the head and tail feathers are blue satin to give them some luster. The chest has a real feather ruff. The eyes, beak, and claws are sculpted and painted. Wire runs through all the limbs and the tail for maximum posing. I still remember some of the techniques I learned from making this birdy, like how to achieve a flat object that has wires running through it.
Mamoswine plushie seen from a few different angles. The eyes are sculpted and painted. I was very pleased with the snout; how all the fabrics came together perfectly and the little bit of thread sculpting in the nostrils really brought out the dimension of the nose. I remember being somewhat unhappy with the feet fuzz, because I have a general distaste for leaving raw edges showing. But it worked well here.
A Misdreavus plushie seen from four angles. I was so happy with the pattern I created here, at how curvy the shapes are and how balanced the whole plushie is. I mostly used crushed panne, which gives the plushie a mottled sparkle. I found a perfect set of beads in a craft store that was used for the necklace. The eyes and mouth was hand-appliqued fleece plus some needle felting.
A Crobat plushie seen from the front and back. The eyes were sculpted and wire runs through the wings. The body was mostly fleece, with the webbing of the wings being suede.
Here's a series of Pokemon plushies I made oh... 14 years ago! They're one of a kind and feature a lot of fun elements, like polymer sculpted eyes, internal wires, and real feathers.

A prototype plushie of Jack Frost in three different angles.
Here is a Jack Frost plushie that I prototyped for Fangamer! www.fangamer.com/collections/... I'm particularly proud of how I managed to make two holes in the hat in a manufacturable way. If you're a plushie maker, you might have some appreciation for how hard 'donut' holes are to make!

My prototype Astrobot plushie from four different angles. The more subtle the shapes, the more difficult they are to achieve in plushie form. Like, the head isn't just a 'circle', and the body isn't just an 'oval', so they required a lot of care. I'm very pleased with my choice of eye fabric, in which the individual sparkles are reminiscent of pixilation.
Here's a construction document that I sent to the factory. It shows a piece of blue organza on a marble slab and a soldering iron. I used the soldering iron to cut and seal the edges of the organza, and I'm asking the factory if they are able to do something similar. It turns out that they were not able to do it; they ended up embroidering the edges of the cape. I also instructed them to cut the organza on the diagonal. This detail got missed, which resulted in weak capes for the first run of Astrobot, but it has since been corrected.
Here's a construction document for AstroKratos. It's my drawing of all their clothes and how they should be constructed and layered.
I prototyped the official Astrobot plushie from Fangamer! That was about two years ago; more recently, I had heavy involvement with the Kratos version of Astrobot. I didn't prototype this new version, but I oversaw the turnaround art and the sampling process.

All pattern pieces need to include a 1/4inch seam allowance. Label your pattern pieces with the name of the part, color, number of pieces cut. Also include a centimeter/inch ruler on each pattern page so the manufacturers know the scale.

I'd also like to offer some general advice for manufacturing plushies. Keep hand-sewing to an absolute minimum. For the most part, only the stuffing hole and thread-sculpted fingers should be hand sewn. Horns, limbs, etc. need to be designed to attach by machine sewing.

Pictures of an Isaac plushie prototype from 3 angles. Seeing his back shot reminded me of a funny story. So, Fangamer released pictures of Isaac several months before he was available to be sold, and some counterfeiters thought they could beat us to the punch by making their own version. The thing is, Fangamer never released pictures of his back, so the thieves didn't know what it looked like. They sold their version which has an empty back!
For the Dead Space fan who requires plushies, you can buy the Isaac plushie I prototyped from Fangamer! He required a lot more hand sewing, gluing, and raw edges than I usually like to put into a plushie. You can read a longer writeup about his creation here: www.metroidhat.com/ridley/isaac...
