10) The people. BKC attendees truly embrace the spirit in which BKC was created. It's a place to share improve our work, have hard conversations, and make the world a better place one step at a time. It's the people that make this event what it is. We want you to be a part of it.

9) Kent, OH may not have the innate appeal of some of the bigger cities, but it's charming nonetheless. The area has a lot to offer, whether you stick to Kent and Kent State or venture to Akron or Cleveland there's also fun to be had.

8) We keep you fed. There's plenty of food to fuel your tank for all the thinking you'll be doing. The food's very good too. Catering from the conference center is pretty great. This helps further keep the cost of attendance low, especially for students and early career folk.

7) The presentations are seriously top tier. From the keynote, to the breakouts, to the posters, the presentations are not just interesting, but exciting and engaging.

6) Attending BKC, and having a good time, does not require any insider knowledge. There are mechanisms built-in to help new attendees feel right at home. The BKC committee members are always on-site to help make sure your experience is worthwhile.

5) At BKC, we take the work seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. The event is structured to include time for networking, collaboration, and goofy things like Power Point Karaoke (which has nothing to do with singing).

4) BKC is the most affordable conf. on the calendar. The cost of attendance is 1/2 what it costs to attend CEC and 1/3 of what it costs to attend PCRC or CRIEI. Seriously. Hotel is $139/night. EB registration is $300 for faculty, $175 for grad students and post docs.

3) BKC is the place to have hard, honest, conversations about our research. We can take on challenging topics, disagree, and come together in a space that is supportive and meaningful.

2) Presentations at BKC are a 2-way street. Presenters get real time feedback from the audience while the audience learns about new, innovative, and provocative research. Presenters get more than a line on the cv, they leave with feedback that makes their work better.

1) At BKC all are welcome. Anyone with an interest in improving the quality of research in special education and related fields is welcome to attend. We encourage submissions from gen ed, school psych, speech, etc. Everyone has value here.

Early this morning, September 25, 2024, our friend, colleague, and conference namesake, James M. Kauffman died at his home in Afton, Virginia.

Jim's contributions to research and advocacy in special education are immeasurable.
