Right every post about it has a photo of Hegseth but the quote comes from an anonymous report and is attributed to β€œan officer.” Ok. Like I don’t doubt people are saying that shit and I don’t doubt it’s a real thing people believe. But the β€œreporting” is getting out of hand 🫩

"Learning the Ropes" feels like a stroke of genius. Sometimes I surprise myself.

I have a pretty good title already though. Something like "Learning the Ropes: Conversion, Catechism, and Sincerity of Belief in Pro Wrestling"

Good thing some US colleges are closing their Religious Studies departmentsβ€”definitively not β€œuseful” at all or an area of expertise that might be relevant for understanding our present…

Man what really gets me about academic AI boosters is their utter lack of respect for the very work they supposedly love and have dedicated their lives to. Like what are you even doing here, my guy???

What Charlie Kirk did for me was create an org whose watchlist targeted mostly Black & Brown jr professors who named white supremacy & other oppressions. For years, I got rape threats & death threats. Thanks Dept of Ed for featuring Kirk & reminding the rest of us how much you hate us.

In a statement to The Crimson, Summers wrote that the decision to leave was β€œdifficult” and that he remained β€œgrateful to the thousands of students and colleagues I have been privileged to teach and work with since coming to Harvard as a graduate student 50 years ago.”

β€œFree of formal responsibility, as President Emeritus and a retired professor, I look forward in time to engaging in research, analysis, and commentary on a range of global economic issues,” he added.

When academia's stars mistreat people, they're "punished" with relief from teaching, mentoring, and service responsibilities. This frees them to spend more time on the more valued work of research. And dumps less valued responsibilities onto colleagues, making it harder for them to become stars.

Unmasking Academe’s Gilded Boys’ Club The Epstein files reveal an elite, chummy, and venal scholarly network.

β€œβ€¦the Epstein files highlight issues that women in academe have mostly discussed in whisper networks: Who is unsafe to be alone with? Which advisers are to be avoided? Whose connections may come with a price?” www.chronicle.com/article/unma...
