Make that herpS in the grass! Just went on a hike along the Beavercreek Wetlands, & spotted my first snake of the year - a nice big eastern gartersnake. Then further along, I saw 3 more! 😃

From below, we see diagonal branches going from the lower left to the upper right of the frame. Perched in the middle is a small falcon in profile. S/he spots the camera and flies away. I visited one of the local steppes near to Pinoso and was pleased to see some early Lesser Kestrels back already (7). What stunning little raptors. They were busy wizzing around displaying and showing off to the females. #birds #birding #birdsseenin2026 #naturephotography

I’ve had this mental block in remembering… What is that duck that wears herringbone? I finally came up with a silly mnemonic to assist me. “Egad! It’s a Gadwall!”

Just starting to go through all my photos from Costa Rica but I'll start the week with a small but fierce Red-legged Honeycreeper. 🪶

A fluffy gray squirrel is finding seeds scattered under a feeder hanging on the tree behind it.

A gray squirrel spent quality time hanging on the feeder and reaching in for scoops of birdseed and it shows! 🦊🪶
