The word "carpetbagger" originated as a way to discredit abolitionists running for office in the former confederacy. Maybe a word people shouldn't really adopt as an insult.

But also her whole spiel about the CCP is incoherent. Strategic ambiguity exists to enable diplomatic solutions.

When we were tabling here for bike everywhere month a few years ago we witnessed a driver right hook a biker at this intersection.

And this was after the new bike infra was in place.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking. Challenging to measure for sure but would be interesting as some sort of graphic.

This is obviously a super long shot but if any election will make it happen it's gonna be the next two, which is why we need a strong DSCC making better candidate selections.

MS, MO, LA, KY don't seem that crazy. Two of those have elected statewide Dems recently and the other two have plausible demographic paths.

This is excellent!

I also want someone to do a comparative graphic for the impact on people driving.

Legacy outlets invented lifetime roles for pundits that are continuously wrong.

Then independent outlets copied the model and their readers adopted those pundits as thought leaders.

The gist of the discourse is here.

Overall I'm super hesitant to suggest solutions because I think most of the obvious ones just play into voters worst instincts and we really need a better solution that elevates voters better instincts.

The recent discourse about Dems appearing "weak" is related to this.

"I will hurt the bad people" straightforwardly codes as strength. It also explains our political gender dynamics.

I don't know the best approach for Dems but I feel strongly this is the root problem.

Alito putting false facts in his decisions makes a lot of sense when you remember he's a 2020 election conspiracist, true believer.

The follow up here is complaining about "libs."

Dude just actually hates personal liberties. He would prefer everyone be under the boot of an authoritarian, just leftist-ly.

People need to get off the bad site because it's making them ignorant.

The most legitimate defense is simply that it drives revenue. At least that defense supports the news in some way.

Publishing opinions doesn't require an op-ed.

An op-ed is handing a person a platform. It is not just publicizing an idea.

It's bad enough that papers do this mindless nonsense. But it's 100% worse that people earnestly insist the readers have media illiteracy.

I think 27% is basically the floor of support for anything.

It feels grim, dismal and maybe cynical to talk about polls. But if we hope to overcome all this that's the overall approval we need to reach.

That may be true. And also as a Jew who is worried for my own safety and the safety of my family by the aggressive mainstreaming of violent antisemitic conspiracism across the political spectrum, this is an insanely callous response.

What is the point of that thread?

Why do they want people to stop criticizing Platner for this stuff?

It's also just straightforwardly false that we got involved in two wars during Biden's term. Is he talking about Ukraine??

kaine's been trying to get the war powers resolution over the line for weeks and if senate republicans hadn't cowered to trump and senate leadership, we'd be in a different position this morning than we were yesterday morning
