I miss the early days of the internet when people made creative things for the joy of sharing creativity. It cost little or nothing to do and no one was chasing algorithms to try to pay for it. Crowne Prince's work has always reminded me of those times making this that much more heartbreaking.

First Kuda's Noodles meetup of 2026! Held it in the Stage Flight world.

It's a boring answer but ultimately that's the point of practicing scales and doing drills. You build up a vocabulary which allows you to piece together new thoughts. With good recollection one might repeat a poem in an unknown language but wouldn't be able to write a unique piece.

Often when I get stuck like that I will see if I can come up with a counter melody or noodle out a "solo" like you would in live jazz or bluegrass. Sometimes that satisfies the ear worm and gets fresh creative juices flowing or if I'm lucky I'll find a unique riff to develop further.

Everyone in my part of Minneapolis is affected. On our streets, ICE is stopping people of color and demanding their papers. In America. US citizens do not have to prove citizenship to ICE. Yet people are being intimidated, some cases beaten up and detained, for requiring ICE to follow the law. ICE needs a judicial warrant to enter homes. Yet there are documented cases of them ignoring the law - violating a bedrock constitutional principle. Americans of color are staying home, afraid to go to work, school, to grocery shop, or fill their cars with gas. This isn't just "illegals" or immigrants with valid work permits, it is citizens who have had their cars rammed by ICE for merely looking Hispanic. Businesses are closing. Schools are 50 percent full. When they are open, fascists are calling in bomb threats because the president decided to make us a meme. After a daycare teacher with a valid work permit (through 2030) was snatched from her workplace, parents (and grandparents) have had to organize to watch their SCHOOLS, to make sure conditional rights are observed. This is being repeated throughout Minnesota. Imagine trying to do your job or live you life while also taking volunteer shifts to make sure the federal government doesn't act extrajudicially. Because of ICE's documented abuses, neighbors have organized to monitor federal actions. This observation is legal, as long as it doesn't interfere with a valid action. One(ish) month report switching to Deezer from Spotify. Honestly mostly seamless. Interface and apps are a pretty lateral move. I think I actually gained songs back that Spotify didn't have anymore too. The shuffle is...better? It always felt like Spotify shuffle favored some artists. Also less evil

brightwanderer I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned "forever" into the only acceptable definition of success. Like... if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it's a "failed" business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don't actually want to keep doing that, you're a "failed" writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it's a "failed" marriage. The only acceptable "win condition" is "you keep doing that thing forever". A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a "real" friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a "phase" - or, alternatively, a "pity" that you don't do that thing any more. A fandom is "dying" because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things. I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it's okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success... I don't think that's doing us any good at all.
