Just pub’d and next up on my TBR (after I finish KPB’s COTTONMOUTH): THE WIDOWS OF WINDING GALE by @kealanpatrickburke.bsky.social. A “nightmarish homage to the seminal work of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Hope Hodgson, Arthur Machen, and John Carpenter.” Signed & #d HC, Earthling Pub., 2025.

Seems like an article @arkhamlibrarian.bsky.social would appreciate and enjoy.

His Stark series, THE AX is my favorite Westlake. Just a brilliant piece of work.

CD just announced a new upcoming novel, CITY HALL, with the tagline, “You can’t fight City Hall!” Talk about bureaucratic- organization horror!

I see Gun Crazy in that photo collage…quite possibly my favorite noir, timeless and eminently watchable.

That’s always been one of my favorite Smith covers. No idea if the story itself is as entertaining as its cover (though since it’s GNS, I’m placing my bet on No).

Malfi’s terrific. I’m reading his THEY LURK at the moment, after recently reading GHOSTWRITTEN, and am again reminded what a skilled and engaging writer he is.

I’m trying to imagine how words on a page could possibly capture what made the movie so uniquely special, which was the performances. You say it was a fun read, so they must’ve figured out a way.👍🏻

Well, that’s pretty cool…I didn’t realize there was even a novelization of that terrific movie. Congrats (again)!

@markrainey.bsky.social Stephen, I just sent you an email via your website…if you don’t receive it, please let me know & I’ll resend. I’m hoping to get a scan/photo copy of an article from your Summer 1997 issue of Deathrealm to help with a project I’ve contracted for. Any help greatly appreciated.

What a great novel, my favorite work by him under the Westlake byline.

“The Veldt” is a particularly memorable Bradbury story for me.

Thanks for the chance at the DARK CARNIVAL ARC.

Like THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE, early Cain had a knack at distilling brilliance.

Before I incite biblio-panic, though, all four windows have professionally installed window film that omits nearly all the UV and softens glare. Plus, the way the sun travels over our house and with a roofed patio area, only the morning sun angles in.

There’ll be no dustjacket fading on my watch!

Custom built-ins.

I had a bunch of glass-fronted oak lawyer’s bookcases at our old place, but decided on a fresh start at our new home.

If I ever figure out how to burnish mine with a bit of your shadowy old-timiness, I’ll send some pics your way. I suspect I’m fighting a losing battle, though, as I have the desert sun pouring in from four large windows…that kind of kills that vibe before it can even start.🤷‍♂️

Thanks, Matthew, appreciate it. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Culling hundreds of books (and even then there’s a lot of double-shelving going on) was probably the hardest part.

That’s definitely one of those tweaks that’s still TBD. It curves inward, so is a kind of awkward space for any larger wall decor and bookcase, since they don’t sit flat against the wall. I agree, though, that it’s a wasted opportunity for…something. But I’ll get it figured out.👍🏻

No Tom Cruise-style web of laser beams, but they’re otherwise protected against intruders and desert dust alike.😎
