Part 2 of the collaboration with Terence Tao on the cosmic distance ladder is now out. It covers how we first learned the distances to planets, stars, and galaxies far, far away.

Aww yeah! Been waiting for this. Part 1 was amazing

22.01.2025 19:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sink is still the best imo. But if flick heavy decks turn out to be really strong then everyone needs something to stop those pesky daggers! And for that SftS works like a charm. Are there other good options for every hero?
22.01.2025 19:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You may be right abou that!
22.01.2025 19:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Printing Shelter from the Storm as Majestic is such a dick move! Pretty much half of all decks run Sink Below and its common! SftS is similar and will rival it in popularity. Sink is <1$ and SftS will probably be like 50-100$ #fabtcg
22.01.2025 11:56 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Just finished playing #OuterWilds what an amazing game! Looking forward to playing the dlc

21.12.2024 10:24 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It looks like a fun rpg, and has multiple sandbox campaigns to choose from!
21.12.2024 10:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great question! I like XP awarding that makes the PCs more proactive, whether XP-for-gold or exploration. The way XP is rewarded always incentivizes a certain play style. As long as it steers away from murderhobo-ing or passive PCs I'm fine with it!
09.12.2024 14:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Accurate. I once tried to make dnd feel more 'gritty' but I didn't change enough rules so my players found ways to mitigate slow healing through numerous class abilities. Adapting the system to suit your interests can be done, but it can be a lot easier to just switch to another system

Mothership core set is really good. I also like Mausritter's box
17.11.2024 08:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Somehow I'll be running my first #pf2e session today. I can't remember even half the rules I've read. I'll just keep it simple and see how it goes. They've had a week to think about their characters already but we still might not make it past character creation today

After yesterdays #40k match we started thinking of running a narrative campaign, not just with crusade rules, but maybe with a game master. I wonder if I can find some premade resources for making/running it that we could utilize
12.10.2024 05:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ooh didn't even know about leshys! Yeah if one player decides to make a leshy PC, I think having some twisted leshy reflavoring for the twigblights in the adventure is warranted
09.10.2024 13:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I quickly glanced pf monsters and didn't see twigblights, or do they have a different name? I might just use some ready made pf2e plant monsters instead of converting the 3.5 blights
09.10.2024 07:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I bought it on a whim from a bargain bin last year when visiting japan. It was something like 500 yen (3-4 $). Who wouldnt buy a classic intro module like that for such a price?
09.10.2024 06:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Told my #ttrpg playgroup we would play a short pathfinder game next. I'm thinking of running Sunless Citadel since I happen to have the physical copy of the module. Converting the module to pf seems easy enough. Just gotta learn pathfinders rules firsssst
09.10.2024 05:42 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Been #cycling about 3.6k km total this year, which is a new record for me. Today was cold and dark when I got back. I miss summer already
30.09.2024 18:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Finished the Iron King by Maurice Druon. It was a #book my brother suggested to me. Apparently George R.R. Martin calls it "the original game of thrones". It was alright, but I think the actual historical events are the real interesting part, not the book itself. To read the series or not? hmm maybe

Chaos vanquishes all! The playgroup still disagrees which edition is best, some prefer 10e, some prefer 5e.
27.09.2024 22:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0None needed, we can stop the discussion here. I was just curious about why impressing the GM could be seen as a bad thing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
27.09.2024 10:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was just talking about impressing your GM. If the GM is impressed when players engage with the mechanics of the game, that's great too, it just means the playgroup works well together. Not everyone seeks the same things when playing ttrpgs so it's important to find people who you like playing with
27.09.2024 09:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well regardless of "rule of cool", is trying to impress your GM a bad thing though? I'm impressed by great role playing and creative use of resources to solve problems! If there's a way to encourage that then I count that as a win π
27.09.2024 07:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Do people really talk about these, I don't really get these statements. I mean I agree with what you are saying, I've just never heard anyone use these terms at the table. I have heard people talk about "Rule of cool" when they ignore rules when they get in the way of telling a compelling story.
