I donβt know about you, but I find this terrifying.
Also, isnβt that the pastor that says women shouldnβt have the right to vote, among many other disturbing things?

It's HAWK BABY TIME! Mama Hera was glued to her nest this morning even in the sleet. She only got up once to stretch and let me grab a picture. #birds #hudsonhawks

Thank you for sharing this, Kelsey. Our feathered friends do face a lot of pressures. It is great that cities like New York have spaces where birds can thrive.
Also non-profit agencies in the city like The Wild Bird Fund. π¦

Very interesting & sad, Kathy. To lose a quarter of the ice in the glaciers in the Swiss Alps is very concerning.
The quote from a climate scientist, βI feel weβre at the point where we can see clear evidence that climate change is affecting the stability of the Alps overall,β is a wakeup call. π
I appreciate you taking the time to check it out. Yes, it is somewhat depressing. Fresh water resources are such a treasure. Enormously wealthy corporations like Coco-Cola and Pepsi just cannot keep exploiting it. π§

Climate change is affecting the Great Lakes. Evaporation is accelerating, while reducing precipitation. Warmer temperatures means less ice cover in winter, increasing evaporation. Rainfall patterns are shifting, diverting less water to feed the lakes. #watercrises π

Graph showing historical ice coverage of the Great Lakes.
With milder, temperatures in the forecast, this will likely be the most ice the Great Lakes will have this winter season. This season reached a coverage of 50.29%, just shy of the historical average of 52%. Sources: www.weather.gov/cle/GreatLak...

I'm currently living in Central Canada near the Great Lakes, Penny. Had to look it up to make sure I had my ID correct. It's the double crested cormorants that we have here around the Great Lakes. The lakes will freeze in winter, so they're migratory. The great cormorant is primarily the east coast

02.03.2026 16:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A very informative article. Identification can be confusing. In Canada we have the Great Cormorant. It is interesting that shags are a different bird in the UK. Sometimes here in Canada the Great Cormorant are simply called Shags. Our other specie is the smaller double crested cormorant.
