Living, Adaptive & Energy-autonomous Materials Systems (livMatS)

Research training groups offer #DoctoralStudents the opportunity to pursue a #doctorate in an attractive and tailor-made #research and qualification program. The new RTGs will be funded for an initial period of five years starting in spring 2026.

"BioBuild" combines the expertise of the University of Freiburg in the field of #MaterialsScience and #Biomimetics from #livMatS with the expertise from the @unistuttgart.bsky.social in computer-based planning & manufacturing for #architecture from @exc-intcdc.bsky.social.

The @dfg.de has approved the establishment of the research training group RTG 3123 “BioBuild – Bio-inspired Materials and Systems. It is one of two new RTGs at @uni-freiburg.de. The RTG focuses on bio-inspired building envelopes that react flexibly to weather & light conditions.

Attractions at the stand included demonstrations of soft robotic grippers & walkers, a #SoftRobot flipper, and experiments on #polymers for example with gummy bear slime. We could see the fascination in the eyes of many children, and we experienced how important this insight into #science is. ✨
