[This is a comic about the second half of Shadowbringers. It also has contextless Endwalker spoilers] Emet-Selch is talking to the Warrior of Light offscreen at the Ladder. A male Viera is taking stock in the background and listening in. When Emet-Selch leaves the Viera says "Someone like that won't save you." and is shocked when Emet-Selch turns around and says "What was that?" Emet-Selch sees who it is and says "Oh, the assistant." The Viera rambles "Very sorry to bother you sir, I assure you I did not mean to eavesdrop, I just happened to overhear your conversation and failed to keep my thoughts to myself. I did not expect you to listen to me..." He trails off, thinks for a moment, and says "We all appear broken to you, so you may not have realized..."

The Viera continues with a look of disdain towards the Warrior of Light, an older Au Ra: "But that man is well and truly defective, as hero and person both. This "Warrior of Light" of ours lacks any understanding of grief or suffering, and has no desire to change the world whatsoever. He has some skill at heroics, but he is worthless as a hero. He truly believes life is fine as it is. The promise of a distant paradise will never win him over." Emet-Selch: "A rather unbecoming amount of disdain towards the man you have thrown your lot in with. Are you considering a change of allegiance?" Viera: "Unfortunately I am a coward moved by fear for my own life. My personal misgivings aside, you are as familiar as I with his results. He is an indispensable asset to those who live in the present. Though his behaviour has been unusual ever since the Crystal Exarch involved himself. I may indeed have to reconsider where I stand." The Viera looks serious now. "Presumptuous though it may be, I do feel some kinship with you. It hardly compares to your eternity, but I have still lived longer than most, and have seen more than many would in that time. I have learned that the sole constant of life on this star, is violence."

The Viera narrates over a scene of armed conflict. "People of all races, all walks of life, all mother tongues, understand what violence is. From east to west, from past to present, all of mankind knows pain, and how to inflict it." The scene changes to animals feeding on prey. "The wolf knows what it is to hunt, and the deer knows what it is to be hunted. Neither ever needs to be taught. Ants wage countless wars beneath our feet each day, and even plants understand what it means to harm one another." A cross-section of an egg shows Meteon curled up inside. "Each person's first breath is spent screaming in pain. No chick is born without breaking its shell." An indistinct outline of Amaurot's skyline. "From our perspective, a people who have never known conflict or hardship-" It pans down to show the Viera's smug expression. "Can hardly even be considered alive, no?" He turns to smile mockingly at Emet-Selch. "Though the same cannot be said of you, of course! Indeed, I do not doubt we are but pale facsimiles of true life in your eyes." Emet-Selch looks down on the Viera as he leaves through a portal and says "I will give you points for originality, at least."

The Viera stands before the open gates before the Ladder, with nobody else in sight. He thinks "WHY DID I SAY THAT" and panics, pacing back and forth and repeating "why did I say that he's going to kill me" a few times before going "Why do I run! My stupid mouth!" with his head in his hands. A moment later he clicks his tongue, looks back up, and mumbles "The assistant... He should at least try to remember our names at this point."

A male Au Ra casually holds the magic cup from Dawntrail as he sits on a couch and talks. Everybody loves an omnipotent wish-granting mechanism in theory, but things that get called wish-granting mechanisms are on average really just a directionless mass of immeasurable energy at best. If it can't grant the wish by itself that's hardly omnipotent, it's hardly even a wish-granter, it's functionally no different from any other tool people use to achieve their goals. If an aspiring farmer picks up a hoe that's your wish-granter right there. People who know how to fulfill their wishes by themselves don't turn to wish-granters about it, they use methods that actually work. The wishes left to wish-granting mechanisms are, by process of elimination, usually along the lines of saving the world. That's the kind of stuff that people never really know how to do themselves, so they want something else to do it. For something to be a true wish-granting mechanism, it has to be able to fulfill the wish independent of the wisher. But a "wish" is inherently something born from subjective desire, which in turn is born from subjective experience. Everyone wants something different out of life, you can't expect a wish-granting mechanism to properly fulfill something as subjective as a wish without giving it some kind of personality that can subjectively understand wishes. If it doesn't understand the wish it's granting, that's still just a tool you point in the direction of your goals and not a miracle. And there you have the problem. Either you have a glorified tool that will only be able to grant your wish if you already knew how to do it yourself anyway, or you have a true wish-granter that will understand exactly why you can't and won't do it yourself. Anyway, you can mix some crazy drinks in this thing, it's pretty cool.

Gosetsu and Yotsuyu are stranded on the deserted island. Gosetsu is turned away from the viewer and sitting crosslegged facing the ocean. Yotsuyu is lying close to the viewer, but with her face off-screen. This panel is repeated multiple times as they talk. Yotsuyu: Why didn't you kill me? Gosetsu: It's unbecoming of a samurai to kill an unarmed and unconscious opponent. Yotsuyu: So you would kill me if I were armed? Gosetsu: No. I have failed Doma, and Doma has failed you. It is not for me to cast your judgement.

The panels remain the exact same as their conversation continues. Yotsuyu: Hah, being self-righteous is the only thing you samurai are good at. I would have killed you without hesitation or remorse, you know this. Did you perhaps think saving my life would spare you my wrath? Gosetsu: You called me a survivor, just like you. I thought, perhaps- Yotsuyu: I didn't agree to be the face of your regrets, old man.

Yotsuyu: Revisit this moment as often as you like, reality will not be any kinder. What a joke. Denied my agency, denied my dignity, and now even denied my anger at being denied. Don't you dare remember me as that meek girl. A Doma that would only save her is not worth saving. The camera changes to show Yotsuyu staring directly at Gosetsu, while Gosetsu's expression remains just out of view. Yotsuyu: Do you hear me, old man playing at being a priest? The Doma that cannot forgive Yotsuyu for surviving likewise cannot be forgiven. Do not put your regrets in my mouth without putting your resentment there too.
