Seen on a local hedgerow. Lichen are neither plant or animal, but a symbiotic partnership.
Because lichens thrive on bare rock and in extreme conditions, they are symbols of resilience and adaptability.
Apparently, they are some of the earth’s oldest life-forms, and can live for over 4000 years!

This close-up of a lichen makes them look a bit otherworldly. The circular structures on lichen are called 'apothecia', the sexual reproductive structures of the fungal partner in the lichen symbiosis.

They are a symbiotic association between a fungus & a photosynthetic partner - an algae or cyanobacteria, representing collaboration, interdependence & interconnectedness of all living beings.

πŸ“£ International Women’s Day is next Sunday, so we’re highlighting the link between #HarmfulChemicals, such as PFAS, and women’s health.

Women around the world are disproportionately impacted by #HarmfulChemicals, due to biological, social and occupational factors.

And yet, as the EU considers a ban on non-essential uses of PFAS, the industry falls into hysterical predictions this will lead directly to the total collapse of medical systems. For the record, the ban would apply to non-essential uses only & firms have long transition times to find alternatives.

It’s 2 March, which can only mean one thing. YES, THAT'S RIGHT! It’s the 144th anniversary of the day Queen Victoria survived the last of eight attempts to assassinate her, prompting William McGonagall to write another of his spectacularly terrible poems 🧡
