As the personal disappointments of 1989 dragged on into 1990, along came a record that made me feel simultaneously worse and better. Worse, because everything about it triggered feelings of melancholy even when I was happy, but better because a band I dug were getting Radio 1 airplay & a chart hit.-

Technocapitalists’ great trick is to make people who hate all this bullshit feel like they’re suffering from the same fogeys-not-coping-with-a-changing-world syndrome every generation succumbs to, rather than, say, just rejecting a rampant evil that seeks to rob us of our individuality and soul.

Agapanthus stalks and β€œskeletons” against a blue sky.

Before you cut everything back to make the garden look β€œneat” β€” pause.
Right now in Ireland and the UK, many insects are still overwintering inside last year’s hollow stems.
Most don’t emerge until temps are regularly above ~10–12Β°C (often late March–April).

β€œTidy” can mean destroying shelter. πŸŒ±πŸ¦‹

Because lichens thrive on bare rock and in extreme conditions, they are symbols of resilience and adaptability.
Apparently, they are some of the earth’s oldest life-forms, and can live for over 4000 years!
