Joan is fundraising to help support this trial taking place in Norway

The people behind it are sound and the science looks promising so whatever the results we will learn more about ME/CFS. From the pilot it looks there may also be a real chance of a treatment for some

How A Publisher Almost Killed The Book I Waited My Whole Life To Write: a thread

My novel Villager came out in 2022. It was published by Unbound, who had little marketing/sales power. But I was excited & proud, since I worked so f-ing hard on it.

Caller: I live in America now, since the '80s, but I'm visiting family in Wales this week, and I thought I'd ring in.
Host: Why did you move from Wales to America?
Caller: I actually moved because of a woman.
Host: Who's the lucky lady?
Caller: Margaret Thatcher.

WW2 Spitfire had to do emergency landing as engine stopped A safety notice is now in place following the emergency landing in West Hythe.

Bit amazed by this bit:

'Investigators said they found a degraded gasket had created a fuel system leak, which caused the power loss.

The agency found the system was "at least 70-years-old and its last overhaul date was unknown"'

Juan was observing the situation at the ICE detention facility alongside other elected officials. He was in a designated protesting area & was standing peacefully when video shows

THE
β€’ LONDON
ECONOMIC
If you want your country back, go ahead and take it,
There are signs up in every street about what your town needs help with,
Local litter picking groups are always on the lookout,
The library needs volunteers, the youth clubs need a paint job,
The community centre's desperate for folk to come on weekdays
To play board games with older residents and help out in the cafΓ©,
The rape crisis centres need fundraisers and donors,
And drivers are in dire need to get non-drivers to doctors,
The library needed volunteers all summer, did you go there?
The local football clubs need coaches and lines-folk and referees,
The allotments need looked after, the local parks need planted,
And if you don't want to help with anything above,
Just admit you do not give a sh*t, and shut the f*ck up.

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Used to sell broken biscuits by weight in Woolworths. Came in a big, square metal tin with a glass window in so you could see how broken they actually were, which was usually not very. Until we weighed them out, anyway.
