3/3 But this is still an encouraging early sign that Congress (or at least a bipartisan committee in the Senate) DOES NOT WANT TO SLASH SCIENCE FUNDING.

But we also need to keep up the pressure too!!!

So continue calling your reps especially if you're in an appropriations state or district.

Our review on kidney sensory innervation is out! It was such an honor to write about all the amazing work from my colleagues in this growing field of renal interoception. Yay kidneys! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The thing about kids is they really make it hard to wallow in the terror. Because they still need dinner made and noses wiped and bedtime stories read.

There's also a bone-deep despair for their future that undergirds everything. But at least I can't just collapse.

One attorney, Lizbeth Mateo, said ICE officials slated several of her clients for check-ins at the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown L.A. but when they showed up on Tuesday, they were detained and immediately escorted to the basement.

Mateo said a couple and their two children, one of whom is a U.S. citizen, spent the night in a room with no beds and limited access to food and water. Mateo said the father had previously been issued a stay of removal, barring him from deportation but he and his family were detained anyway. His wife was released Wednesday evening along with their children since she needed medical attention due to a high-risk pregnancy. He was still being detained early Friday, Mateo said.

๐ŸšจNEW: @cbsnews.com reports ICE is arresting people who can't even legally be deported and holding them without enough food or water in a federal building BASEMENT in Los Angeles.

Families dutifully attending check-ins with ICE are being arrested and held for days, forced to sleep on the floor.

These are the best efforts we have made to empower the next generation of scientists. In a time of shameful cuts to science, these are the most shameful

This makes me sad and angry. I got my start in science through a PREP funded postbac, it set me on a PhD path that changed my life. This is yet another pointless and cruel action to hobble the future of American science.

I am heartbroken ๐Ÿ˜” MARC is the reason Iโ€™ll be graduating with a PhD, and as a soon-to-be postdoc, IRACDA gave me hope that I could realize my dream of research and teaching. PREP was going to be the next stepping stone in my amazing undergradโ€™s research career. We deserve so much better๐Ÿ’”

An โ€˜Administrative Errorโ€™ Sends a Maryland Father to a Salvadoran Prison The Trump administration says it mistakenly deported an immigrant with protected status but that courts are powerless to order his return.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

9) practice speaking up when someone (esp someone you respect) says something messed up

Literally, practice it with friends.

My go-to is a slow screeching โ€œeeeeehhhhhhhhhhโ€ while I gather my thoughts to gently point out how what they said is not cool without letting the convo move past it

4) pronoun stickers at badge pickup

5) explicit message of welcoming at the opening conference statements

6) real accountability to ban harassers

7) no hosting meetings in places with transphobic laws

8) make sure there is a way to report misconduct, that will be acted upon swiftly

People asking โ€œwhat can we doโ€?

Good advice to enact accountability in our scientific societies. Use the power you have in the spaces you can.

Keep pushing for
1) gender inclusive and or single use restrooms
2) inclusive pronouns on registration portal
3) ensure code of conduct is up to date

Etc

Hi Bluesky! One of my goals this year is to put myself out there more as a person and scientist. So actually posting something seemed like a good place to start :) looking forward to being a part of the science community on this app!!
