My family has some San Juan history and I have visited Victoria twice. We were just in Seattle and I could see the Bainbridge Island Ferry from our hotel room and it was torture. Because Friday Harbor, my story can take place in Seattle, Vancouver BC, even Bellingham. Get this book.

Damn spelling: luxurious

The luck comes for the time travellers who escape certain death at the hands of the Ministry (or worse) and end up in the San Juan Islands. The story is filled with choices, including a luxiouroous sailing yacht named "The Choice." My own personal luck is that I found AO3 as a place to post.

That time of year in #PDX

We rode the El everywhere, my son lived under the Jarvis stop. My daughter lived at Belmont. My husband got his MM at North Park. We lived near Howard and Western, so now we must read that book of yours. We recognized all those kids in the book. Will be giving as gifts!

Having grown up on the Oregon Coast, it was wonderful to see our beautiful home in a feature film. But a recent rewatch had me cringing. Especially when the lovely girl walks the plank and is murdered, almost. It's action-adventure so I get it, but could it be made today?

Cannot recommend enough. Moved near Chicago in 1984 (from Oregon)and this is the city I explored at 25. Lived four blocks north if Howard for 25 years. Both hubs and I just loved this revisit to those years in this magical city. So glad I saw an interview with Teddy at 2025 Portland Book Festival

The Captain in the story is assigned to train an execution squad, its expected of him. It has to be done, not often, but justice is served. Exploring how all the characters in the story did their duty was interesting writing. And telling the story of the condemned prisoner. Who dies.

Yes, over a whole lifetime. It's a terrible time in the world after vicious hurricanes and the bombing goes back to misuse of the time machine. The Diplomat from the Future says that he could only come to the past because "everyone died in my family but me." Also, we explore the afterlife, a little.

I do kill my characters. They die in terrorist bombings, of heart failure, a car accident, cancer, and old age.

Their deaths are important to the advancement of the plot. And we have deathbed scenes and even an execution.

You are expected to weep at their funerals. I do.

I wrote a Part 2 if you want the link on A03. They end up in the San Juan Islands instead of Alaska. Also, I stayed with First Graham and Arthur Gore in the future and wrote about them.

OPB Exclusive: In October, an ICE officer in Portland called 911 to report a kid following him on a motorized bike. He told the dispatcher, "I need someone here now, or else I'm going to have to shoot this kid." Homeland Security did not respond to OPB's questions about the incident.
