Fitting that we have a Pedo President, I guess.
It would be fantastic if this made it to trial, where Jack Smith could just submit his investigation and the underlying evidence as a defense

The US is a net importer of beef.
US Beef prices are also at record highs.

Astronomer CEO caught having an affair with his head of HR is bad enough on a personal level... but I'm mostly thinking about how difficult it will be for him to rebuild trust within his company now that all the employees know that he likes Coldplay.

Didn't we all know this already though? I guess it's possible some of Trump's supporters may have been in denial about it... but those who were are likely to remain so.

08.04.2025 16:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The risks of this tariff war are incredibly asymmetric. If we "win" perhaps we can convince Vietnam to eliminate its tariffs, but that only reduces them from 1.1% to 0%. While we wait, China is retaliating with a 34% tariff.
We stand to win very little, but lose a lot.
When you start with the premise that trade deficits are inherently bad, itβs easy to understandβ¦ that these people are simply economically illiterate.

02.04.2025 23:26 β π 4737 π 1295 π¬ 180 π 69post by James Surowiecki: Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is. Below is an earlier post by James Surowiecki which says: It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.
Weβre so screwed.
02.04.2025 23:15 β π 903 π 298 π¬ 29 π 39Part of the problem with this new American Juche economic policy regime is that is based on the misconception that trade deficits are inherently bad... and that misconception is based upon the fact that a lot of people are not very intelligent.
