Somebody posted an old photo in a Facebook local group and asked if anyone could clean it up. Well-meaning people turned to #AI. Lots of responders seemed happy with the results, but this is how you destroy historical records.

My photo shows a three quarter profile of an ancient Egyptian figurine of a leaping dog facing left. Carved from ivory, now a warm caramel brown colour with glossy surface. The dogs eyes are outlined in black, the ears are floppy, the mouth is slightly ajar (the inside of the mouth is painted red - not sen in my photo). The front and back legs are outstretched as if running at full speed. A lever under the dogโ€™s chest opens and closes the mouth so that the dog looks as if itโ€™s barking. Dimensions: L 18.2 cm ร— H 6.1 cm ร— W 3.6 cm. Dated to Late Dynasty I8, I400-I350 BC, reign of Amenhotep III who was Tutankhamunโ€™s grandfather.

The dog is mounted on a thin metal rod in a display case. In the background in the same display case is a โ€˜gallopingโ€™ brown horse, which is the handle of an ancient Egyptian fly whisk or light whip.

If Evangelicals want to know why people are leaving organized religion, it's because you excuse and elevate the objectively worst people as "God's chosen," while ridiculing the poor, marginalized, and downtrodden as sinners and lepers.

And I'm talking to Evangelicals of all faiths.

The content is still obviously delusional to anyone reading it. Itโ€™s just organised crazy. But the real danger is the internal effect on the user. The AI provides coherence and validation, stabilising the narrative theyโ€™re caught in.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

Previously, these belief systems tended to collapse under their own weight. Contradictions and memory gaps made them hard to sustain. Now the AI removes that friction, it produces timelines, summaries, and "forensic" explanations on demand.

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

This week in Art I Am Obsessed With: this self-portrait by Suzanne Valadon. It looks so incredibly contemporary (I would literally wear that exact outfit on hot summer day) but itโ€™s from 1923. Anyway, love a queen with flowy pants and a dangling cigarette!

The so-called โ€œStrike Papyrusโ€ written by Amunnakht
The scribe Amennakht is the author of this papyrus in the hieratic script. It is a report concerning a strike held during the reign of King Ramesses III in the village of Deir el-Medina. The workers protested because they had not received their regular food rations, which constituted payment for their work in the Valley of the kings.
โ€œYear 29, secondo month of the Inundation, day 10. Today the work squadron passed the control post shouting โ€œwe are hungry!โ€ It is 18 days this month that (the men) go and sit at the back of the funerary temple of Tuthmosis IIIโ€. Despite various attempt at conciliation, the protest lasted a number of days. To the officials who tried to persuade them to return to work, the workers replied: โ€œWe are here because of the famine and thirst. We are not accustomed to not having unguents, fish, and greens. Write to the pharaoh our perfect lord, take note of our words, and write to the vizier, our superior, because we are in need of our provisionsโ€.

November 14, 1152 BCE: the first recorded workers' strike occurred in ancient Egypt under Pharaoh Ramses III. Artisans and laborers working on the royal tombs at Deir el-Medina stopped working in protest of delayed and insufficient rations, a form of wages. collezioni.museoegizio.it/en-GB/materi...

I'm always feel that it's strange when people refer to leftism, socialism, anarchism, communism as "white ideologies" because most of the socialists in the world aren't white and the most successful communist movement in the US in the contemporary period were black.
