A photo of a Verizon Wireless-branded LG VX5300 on the "GET FUN & GAMES" screen, showing four apps that were sideloaded to the device. This was made possible by patching out the ESN and signature expiry date checks.
To those curious, the apps are:
- Ms. PAC-MAN
- PAC-MAN Puzzle
- Tetris

The #LG VX5300 joins the ranks of BREW phones with the ability to freely sideload unsigned apps!

I have noticed that AppUI doesn't play nice with the "Verizon UI" pop-ups on this device, so it's best to be skipped here.

The phone in this example is missing a few vertical screen lines, likely due to its age.
It also displays the text "NO SERVICE MSGS ONLY" and likely always will... as the TDMA networks this phone used are long gone.

Apologies about the serious lack of posts these days - the world continues to get busier, but the firmware dumps and fun with documenting devices still moves smoothly to this day!

A few months ago, I posted about the closure of thisisarecording.com, a massive telephone intercept archive going far back.
I'm happy to report that it's back online, thanks to the fine folks who run telephoneworld.org!

Some emulation news, a while ago asdf @oldphonepreserv.bsky.social dumped the previously-lost Puzzle Bobble for Sprint (J2ME) from a Samsung SPH-A900, and today Shinovon (author of KEmulator nnmod) pushed the fixes to make it playable on his emulator. Big props to everyone involved as usual. (1/2)

Recently, Rare Noggin Stuff dumped a Disney Mobile-branded #Samsung DM-S105, making it the second device on this MVNO to be dumped!
As one would expect, nearly all of the graphics in the phone have been given a coat of paint from characters belonging to the mass media giant.
