Astro Bot is a great example of a game that feels like it was designed as a game first. I think the issue goes beyond PS games. Again it seems like an entertainment industry issue where things are designed to make sequels and not to be solid products on their own.

That’s great! There’s plenty of games I hold in high regard that had sentiments similar to the article here. I don’t think the games are bad but I think the whole industry is following a trend similar to the franchise movie industry.

Their first iterations yeah. Good story beats may not drop off your mind but I never hear about gameplay moments or sections of these games being talked about fondly. I guess my point is more so that these games are designed to be narratives first and games second which is why this sentiment exists

Games like these have gone a similar way of franchise movies where they’re made for the franchise and not to be a well contained story bundled up in a fun to play game. These games are good but not memorable.

I used to stream for a sizable MTG outlet and one of the guys that would watch and chat was an animator for Robot Chicken, Star Trek Lower Decks and several others. He’d drop in and talk about some random episodes he worked on. Was always a treat
