The Secretary of State @patmcfaddenmp.bsky.social has agreed to open the event hot off the news that his department is launching a new mobile jobs centre service in our town to break down the barriers that stop people finding good work.

Great British Energy has installed new solar arrays at Blackpool Gateway Academy, Marton Primary Academy, & Nursery.

These savings will enable both schools to reinvest directly in education for pupils by improving facilities, investing in resources, or supporting day-to-day operations.

Blackpool faces serious housing shortages. While the Council has made real progress in building new homes, there is still more to be done.

I asked the Secretary of State what can be done so that we can build the social housing we desperately need & meet the £1.5 million target.

I look forward to working more with the minister to endure the voices of MPs and their constituents from tourist towns like ours.

The minister outlined the government’s priorities for tourism and members were able to put their questions and concerns to her. The meeting touched on a variety of issues including visitor levy, business rates, transport and connectivity.

This month in my role as chair for the APPG for Hospitality and Tourism I welcomed the Minister for Tourism, Stephanie Peacock MP (left) to speak with MPs from across the House and industry representative including Kate Nicholls, chair of UKHospitality (right).

Blackpool and The Fylde College offers excellent courses that equip young people with the skills to work with the vital renewable energy equipment we need for the future.

I asked the Secretary of State to meet me to discuss how we can create those jobs right here in Blackpool?

There's so much more to do – but today shows that we're turning round the NHS and getting it back on its feet.

The NHS is on the road to recovery. Labour's delivering the change people voted for in our NHS.

Levelling up access to healthcare in Blackpool means investing in our town, backing our health workers and making sure everyone gets the chance to live a longer, healthier life.

Make no mistake, this is thanks to the hard work of staff, Labour's modernisation of the NHS and our record investment – which the Tories and Reform both opposed.

Not only are waiting lists falling, but ambulances are arriving faster, and patient satisfaction with GP access has increased from 60% to 75%. 

Fewer staff are leaving than at any point in the past decade, outside of the pandemic. All this despite a really challenging winter.

Protecting the hospitality sector means protecting livelihoods, community spaces, and the spirit of our town. I’ll continue to press for government support in these areas as we work together on building a better Blackpool.

I made the case for increasing the level of business rate discounts for hospitality properties from 5p to 20p, and for freezing further increases in rateable values wherever possible. Without action, we risk losing places that communities rely on and value deeply.

These businesses are the beating heart of our high streets and communities. They provide good local jobs, bring people together, and help keep our town centres alive, yet far too many are being pushed to the brink by rising costs and unfair pressures.

Last week, I met with the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury,
Dan Tomlinson MP, to press the case for stronger support for our hospitality businesses and local pubs.

Following recent discussions with business owners on Waterloo Road, I asked the Minister what action the government is taking to support small businesses in the most deprived wards of our country, such as those in my constituency.

I stand with the @cwunews.bsky.social and their members in calling on Royal Mail to honour the agreement made with its workers.

To protect the future of our local, reliable postal service, Royal Mail must get a grip on delays, tackle the recruitment crisis and deliver fair pay and conditions for its workforce.

On National #PostalWorkersDay, we should recognise the vital role posties play in every community, especially at one of the busiest times of the year. They’re facing heavier workloads and longer hours and their commitment deserves proper respect.

Thank you to every young person, parent, carer and teacher who has shared their experiences with me and kept pushing for change – your voices have made a real difference.

This funding can be used for two new schools or to expand current provision. It will mean more children getting the tailored support they deserve, closer to home, without months of delay or uncertainty.

I’ve been calling on the Government to fund more SEND provision in Blackpool – today, they’ve listened.

I am pleased to announce that we’ve secured the funding we’ve been fighting for, to support 120 extra SEND places right here in Blackpool.
