These particular worms make the wētā seek out water and get in. Parasites are an important part of the ecosystem so try not to hate them too much! Infection rate is low so don’t worry too much either

Cave wētā are known to be infected by the behavior manipulating horsehair worm. Keeping the wētā in a temperature and light controlled environment allows for behavior observations.
