Personally I've yet to try gouache, but I highly recommend Caran d'Ache's coloured pencils. They have water-soluble and water-resistant series, both of them super rich and lightfast. I have some fun blending and technique tips too, for whatever brand you choose!

Oh my goodness you're making me blush, thank you so so much! I feel like coloured pencils are super misunderstood and underrated as a medium - the laying capability is almost like paint, and combining them with other wet + dry media is the key to bringing out both vibrancy and texture!
