Adam Scott is widely known for his roles in 'Parks and Rec' and 'Severance,' but still doesn't feel like he's 'made it' Adam Scott discusses getting "Parks and Rec," working with his wife, bad business decisions, advice for his younger self, and his hope for the future.

Adam Scott still doesn't feel like he's made it, has a feeling like
waiting for success to be snatched away. As someone eagerly awaiting Severance season 2, this was surprising!

Relatable. I wouldn't have thought someone so successful would also feel this.

This was a great show! Funny, light hearted, plus it represents an age demographic I don't see enough of. I started it because it reminded me of The Good Place, but finished it on its own terms!

Our Thanksgiving turkey got stuck in the oven. It took 6 adults to figure out how to get the oven open. No joke!! There was an electrical error!! We think it was too big and the steam caused an issue. Almost didn't have Turkey on Turkey day, haha!

I like this. I made a conscious choice to only scroll my mutuals right now. Trying to find a balance. Stay connected- not so connected it draws me out of my embodied experiences!

Steve Jobs thought devices would become 'a bicycle for the mind'โ€”but their effect on our brains is similar to that of smoking and junk food Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and our power to choose our response. It's time to reclaim that space.

What do you all do to limit tech's addictive pull?

"The best technology of our day must be leveraged as a force to protect attention rather than exploit it."

I like the 4 key tenets here, centered on: protect attention, moderate your engagement, upskill don't doomscroll, and replace behaviors.

This paper looks really interesting and it's open access! Reposting so I know to come back and read.

The article aims "to nudge our discipline towards a more nuanced, inclusive, and socially-informed scientific understanding of multilingual experience"

Wow, this is really interesting, and of course I was curious to look into the claim of "autistics are often dopamine depleted and can have trouble with joy." Seems it checks out - thanks for helping me to learn something new, Neil!

I am not published or anything, but I have a vision, some worldbuilding and a few thousand words towards a hard sci fi style novel.

I kind of wish I could make it into a short story, because I wonder if I am biting off more than I can chew!

It is a dream of mine to...publish something someday๐Ÿ’–

In my experience as a long term sub in various roles other than world language teaching, I personally observed that little attention seemed to be given to the ESL students. I did have some interaction with ESL teachers, but only after seeking it out. I felt ESL students in general were overlooked.

My hot take... Do most world language teachers center communicative purpose?
Do most teachers of multilingual learners center those students' understanding?

Maybe they would, but... How many think 1st of these topics? Hopefully more and more.

Excited to see where you go with these thoughts!

Carlos Whitaker ReConnected book

PING. SCROLL. REPLY.
Most of us have gotten so used to notifications and alerts, pings and rings, that even if we don't want to be on our phone so much, we don't know what to do about it.
When author Carlos Whittaker realized how many hours he was spending on his phone every day, he took extreme measures-spending nearly two months screen-free at a monastery, at an Amish farm, and at homeโ€”to see how unplugging would change his body and soul.
In Reconnected, Carlos blends the inspiring story of this experiment with practical guidance on how you can reset your relationship with screens and step into a life of real connection. (Hint: Monastery not required.)
Reconnected gives you the tools and motivation you need to
cut through the divisiveness of social media so you can build community (even with people who are different from you); relearn how to notice and
savor the beauty of the world; and experience the new delights that boredom, solitude, and getting lost can bring.
Reconnected is a practical and fascinating guide to finding more joy, greater hope, and deeper relationships in a tech-saturated world. This is your invitation to be you again.
CARLOS WHITTAKER is a bestselling author and expert storyteller who uses his vast and varied life experiences to captivate and engage audiences. In his books-How to Human, Enter Wild, Moment Maker, and Kill the Spider-he reminds us that when we are connected to God and good to ourselves, we can be even better for others, Join Carlos and countless others in the pursuit of being human together. One thing I have been planning on doing is reading this book by Carlos Whitaker. He's on IG. He is faith based, but he shares a lot that is not faith based at all. I have the book, just haven't started it yet, but maybe this is just the push I need to get started.

I stopped because the regulations were dropped and I feel felt like it didn't do any good for me to continue wearing it, when those around me didn't. But if there was an expectation that it be worn, or if someone asked me to, I would put it back on.

"Magic Puzzle Company" has some really cool puzzles that imo require less "patience" than others, and have a surprise at the end! Super fun.

I can't sight read very well, but I play 3 songs on the piano well enough to trick you and make you think that I know what I'm doing. I memorized them because I learned the notes so slowly that memorizing just came naturally.

I'd like to actually get better at sight reading. :)
