Today's feature is a pendant set with an extraordinary spectrolite cabochon [shown below].

Spectrolite is a rare-mineral variant of Labradorite, and we have a Labradorite cuff and two pairs of earrings in current inventory.

Wings set it in a hand-scalloped bezel edged with twisted silver, with a simple bail holding a 3mm sterling silver snake chain.

The fourth and final image shows its true magic. this was shot in natural light, outdoors, exactly one year ago today: low-angled sun catching the end and setting the stone on fire.

The third image was shot with a flash from directly overhead, and it immediately turns the whole surface gray. But this is not just any gray: It's an opaque, shimmery, silvery-gray, like stardust melded together. But it does render the banding and all but the tiniest hint of the oval spot invisible.

The second photo, shot in natural light from slight angle, pulls the reds and purples to the surface. They seem mostly opaque, slightly shimmery, and the bands and oval spot show clearly, but only in that red-pink-purple color gradient.

This one is no exception. It's a slightly freeform teardrop, with vertical banding throughout. The first image shows it from directly overhead, when the deep rose and gold bands shows clearly, as well as the concentric rings of that indigo oval on the left that look like a portal within a portal.

It manifests perhaps most commonly in shades of hot pink and purple, but it includes all the colors of the spectrum, and they tend to refract in very deep, intense, electric shades.

Elsewhere, the feldspar is lighter, grays and other shades, and that's what forms Labradorite, but black feldspar is what give spectrolite its deep, intense hues.

It's spectrolite, a mineral in the Labradorite family. It's a rare mineral, only found in Ylämaa, Finland, where the feldspar that forms the base of the spectrolite manifests in the color black.

It's about as simple as it's possible to be, and yet it's so extraordinary. Most of that is thanks to the focal stone, which is a mystical-, magical-seeming thing.
