Stop emissions, stop warming: A climate reality check Why future warming isn't as "locked in" as you might think

On The Climate Brink: Stop emissions, stop warming: A climate reality check

This is a crucial point because it determines how much warming is already "locked in" and effectively unavoidable.

The answer is very little warming is locked in.

Also, this is our 100th post!

Kneejerk response, then overcorrection: what the aftermath of the Amsterdam violence should teach us | Rachel Shabi Assumptions were made about clashes between Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and Amsterdam locals – and the far right took advantage, says author Rachel Shabi

The Part-Time Climate Scientist A humble steam engineer put humans in the driver’s seat.

On a Wednesday in February 1938, Guy Stewart Callendar stood before a group of leading scientists, members of the United Kingdom’s Royal Meteorological Society. He had a bold idea to share:

Humans’ burning of fuel was making the planet warmer.

Biomarker Indicators of Past Climate

I finally received the digital 'offprint' of my encyclopedia chapter 'Biomarker indicators of Past Climate'. It will be officially published in 2025. Paywalled, I am afraid, so much for visibility. Won't do this again. The accepted version is on Research Gate and EarthArxiv: doi.org/10.31223/X54...

Lipid biomarkers: novel applications, calibrations and tools for environmental
studies
Lipid biomarkers are valuable tools for reconstructing a variety of environmental processes in modern
and (geological) past settings. We seek studies that develop new lipid biomarkers and methods for
applying biomarkers to modern settings and the geologic past to reconstruct environmental
parameters such as temperature, precipitation, biogeochemical cycles, anthropogenic activities, and
vegetation. These can be studies on the biosynthesis and phylogeny of source organisms, transport and
diagenesis, calibrations to environmental parameters, proxy interpretation and applications to reconstruct past environmental conditions.

Rock organic carbon oxidation CO2 release offsets silicate weathering sink - Nature Silicate weathering of uplifted rock depletes atmospheric CO2, but oxidation of revealed rock organic carbon supplies CO2, offsetting depletion to a degree dependent on regional geological history.

Comes on top of a paper 1 year ago suggesting organic carbon weathering offsets silicate weathering. So we now would appear to have mountain building as a source of CO2 not a sink. Im not sure that's tenable.

China’s Batteries Are Now Cheap Enough to Power Huge Shifts We no longer need to model for when cell prices drop far enough to decarbonize road transport. That day is here.

This will be an interesting day to reflect on in the future.

"Battery cells at $50/kWh means the technology to decarbonize most of road transport globally is already here, as opposed to in some future scenario."

EVs are cheaper than ICE now. Today.
