Eventually, their skin begins to split open, they bleed from every orifice.

She's beautiful, she's perfect, they NEED to keep seeing her.
They sleep more and more, eventually living in a half-sleep state at all times.

Someone who knows these words will at first, experience nothing out of the ordinary.
But soon, they become tired.
Unbearably, infinitely tired.
They NEED to sleep.
Once they do, they see her, floating above them in an infinite black void.
It terrifies them, and they wake.

A bring known only as The Feathered Goddess is at the center of it.
She is a bizarre, spinning, spiraling collection of blue, pink, and purple crystals, which appears to people in their dreams.
But she only appears to someone who has heard or read a specific set of words.

It takes a concept I originally created for mind control kink purposes, and steers in a decidedly more unsettling direction.

Maria and Mirideth, being in the same body, can communicate inwardly.
Mirideth through text displayed on Maria’s HUD, and Maria through simple directed thought.

As of the second book, Maria is no longer physically capable of sleep.
Because the time spent awake bothers her, she discovers away to enter a sort of low power state for a period of time.
It's not exactly like sleep. There's no dreams, and it's essentially instant from her perspective, but it works
